Are you looking for a good pediatric dentist? You are not alone. Olathe is home to over 125,000 people. About one in three, or 37,000, people are under the age of 18. Parents of these children are looking for dentists that can give their children the dental care they deserve and need. A regular family dentist can provide dental care for children, but they do not have the same training as an Olathe kid’s dentist.
Training is the first thing you should expect an Olathe Kids dentist to have. The regular path for a dentist to take is first to gain a bachelor's degree. That can be in just about any topic. Then the dentist will enter a college of dentistry at an accredited college. These dental programs are usually four years long. The dentist emerges with as a Doctor of Dentistry. At this point, most dentists stop their education. They go into practice offering general dentistry. However, a pediatric dentist goes through two additional years of pediatric dentistry residency. During that time, they get the additional training required to work exclusively with children.
Licensing is the next thing you should expect from an Olathe children’s dentist. Kansas requires that anyone acting as a dentist hold a state license. The applicant must provide proof of education from an accredited program and completion of their doctor of dentistry. They also require proof of education in specialty areas such as pediatric dentistry.
Look for an Olathe children’s dentist that is part of the American Association of Pediatric Dentistry. This organization is the main group in the United States advocating for the practice of pediatric dentistry. Those who are members must be licensed pediatric dentists in practice. It shows a commitment to quality and ongoing improvement for those who are members.
Find an Olathe child dentist with an office designed for children. Adult dental offices look professional and inviting to the adults. However, they can be very intimidating to the children who visit them. A good pediatric office will have a bright and cheerful interior designed especially for children. The equipment and tools will be sized to the children as well. This makes the experience positive for the youngest patients.
Finally, choose a kid dentist with staff trained to help children. Offices that handle adults and children see many more adults. That means the staff usually do not have adequate training to give children the attention they need in this strange environment. A good pediatric office will have all the staff working with children in the best way possible.
