The UK is a huge tourist destination, with millions travelling from all over the world each and every year. This can involve visiting Scotland and venturing up to the historic Edinburgh castle, to visiting London and experiencing the London Eye. It can be difficult to choose a specific location. There is a lot to see. And the City of Westminster has a lot to offer. With a large selection and concentration of architecture, heritage and museums. Palace of Westminster
The Palace of Westminster also know as the houses of parliament, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site which houses the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Most of the buildings on this site were restored during the mid 19th century.
The palace stands on the banks of the river Thames. UK residents are entitled to attend parliamentary debates, watch committees and also take a tour of the parliament and climb the clock tower. Foreign visitors can also tour the parliament during certain days during the week..
Number 10 Downing Street
This is the address of the British prime minister. Located in Whitehall and within walking distance from the houses of parliament.
Unfortunately, no-one can get close. But he building is visible behind a gated area, with a large police presence at all times. Even though, this is a must-see for anyone travelling to Westminster, Including local residents.
Madame Tussauds
A great family activity can be to visit the local Madam Tussauds. A collection or also known as a museum of famous people carved as wax models. There is access to have photographs taken alongside a large list of a-list celebrity wax models.
This is definitely a place to stop by when in the London area. Especially with children.
Buckingham Palace
This specific location must be the most significant and well known by everyone in the UK. Buckingham palace is the official Queen's residence in London. Many celebrities and officials are entertained at this location on a regular basis.
Built in 1705 and surrounded by Hyde Park and St. James's Park. All of these are popular areas during the summer months.
Just don’t forget to miss the changing the guard ceremony. You can expect to see it around 11:30 in the forecourt everyday, except from the winter months when it is every other day.
Harrods
Located in Knightsbridge, Harrods is considered as one of the largest department stores in the world. Spread out over one million square feet and over 330 departments. The food hall and seasonal Christmas department are know all over the world.
