Students pursuing higher education are reliant on a college academic advisor to steer them in the right direction for earning a degree but many are also in need of a part time job that is close to school and pays a decent wage. Students are constantly searching for jobs and there are many opportunities for work right on campus. Are you going to school and searching for employment? If so, keep reading for some employment options that can help you earn some extra spending money.
Computer Tech Support or Lab Attendant
Working in the computer department as a lab attendant or offering technical support are good options for the right individuals. Universities and colleges need students with technical experience who can offer help in the IT field. These jobs pay well and offer students an excellent way to receive practical experience in preparation for a career as an information technology tech after they graduate.
Jobs in the College Gym
College gyms offer students the opportunity to work. Individuals who can issue gym equipment, serve at the check in counter and provide other related support are in high demand. If you have the ability and experience necessary to be a personal trainer or teach aerobics classes to other attendees, you can earn a higher salary and make the most of your part time employment.
Jobs in a College Library
Students tend to overlook the jobs offered in the campus library. Working in the library is more than just handling and checking out books to visitors. Other job opportunities include data entry into the search system, clerical tasks and managing interlibrary loans. Part time jobs in the library provide a comfortable environment for workers.
Babysitting, House Cleaning and House Sitting for Professors
Professors working on college campuses often need babysitters, house sitters, house cleaners and even pet sitters. These are good paying jobs available on a university campus and the professors appreciate the help they receive from the students. Forging a strong relationship with a college professor can also lead to references for other job possibilities.
Work as a Dorm Desk Attendant
Many students do not think about working as a dorm desk attendant. Students do not have to work long hours and enjoy a slower pace. The job pays well and students are responsible for security.
Clerical Work in the Academic Department
Most academic departments have plenty of work available. Students often find the opportunity for part time work to assist secretaries with their workloads. Students can help with journal submissions, conferences, class handouts, faculty meeting notes, journal articles and more.
College students can take advantage of a wide variety of part time jobs on campus. Not all jobs pay as well as others. Students must do research during their search to find the best positions available as a dorm desk attendance, in academic departments, in the gym, in college libraries and in technology departments. Students should also speak with their professors to see if they need help with babysitting, house sitting, house cleaning or pet sitting.
