Greenpeace is a non-governmental body that acts towards changing attitudes and behavior for the protection and conservation of the environment and promotion of peace. This independent global campaigning organization is based in Amsterdam, Netherlands but has got offices in more than forty states across the world. Its goal can be precisely phrased as ‘ensuring that the earth is able to nurture life in all its diversity.’
Greenpeace movement has been on the forefront in advocating against environmental degradation since 1971. It all began when a small boat of volunteers and journalists sailed into Amchitka; an area in North Alaska where the United States government was carrying out underground nuclear tests. The volunteers were guided by the tradition of ‘bearing witness’ in a manner that is non-violent, it is the same spirit that the movement has been propelled on to date.
There are six strategies through which Greenpeace aims to achieve its goal. They are listed below:

Defending the oceans through challenging destructive and wasteful fishing and creation of a global network of marine reserves.

Protecting the ancient forests and animals of the world as well as the people and plant that depend on them.

Working for disarmament and peace by addressing the causes of conflict and calling for the elimination of all nuclear weapons.

Creation of a toxic free future through the campaign for safer manufacturing and products alternatives.

Advocating for sustainable agriculture through the rejection of genetically modified organisms, protection of biodiversity and encouragement of socially responsible farming.
In order to reach out to whole world, Greenpeace has got offices in all the continents including Europe, Asia, America, Africa and the Pacific. In order to maintain its independence, the organization does not accept any donations from states or even corporations. Instead, it funds it facilitates its operations through contributions acquired from foundation grants and individual supporters.
Greenpeace operates on the belief that it is the duty and responsibility of us; governments and corporations to safeguard the environment and secure a better future. The organization uses research, lobbying and quite diplomacy in pursuit of the goals above. Currently, it has been able to garner a total of 2.8 million supporters and still welcoming like-minded individuals and organizations to join hands towards ensuring a green and peaceful future for all.
As a result of the activities of Greenpeace, several companies and governments around the world have reconsidered their activities leading to improvements on the environment.
