On the labour market, remote working has gained more and more popularity in the last period of time, not only because of the development of technology, but also because many people choose to work part-time for more than one company. During time, the matter of remote employee management has been frequently discussed, and while some believe that co-working teams have better results, others consider remote working equally productive. However, many managers are still reluctant to this modern practice, since they think they might lose control over situation, because of the lack of possibility to supervise their employees’ activity and progress. But this situation can be easily avoided if the employer has a series of skills and methods of checking the work daily. There are some simple methods, such as efficient communication, establishing clear expectations and transmitting the right values, that will foster a strong relationship in the team, regardless the distance between the team-workers. In addition to this, due to advanced technology, there are plenty of tools and devices that will help you create coherence between on-site and remote employees.

After the selection process and the training period of the personnel, the manager must make sure that these have enough information about the company and its culture. Being aware that they are part of a great team will keep them engaged, even if they may work from home. Managers have to focus on creating a dynamic but homogenous team, find new opportunities for the workers to get to know each other and interact in an atmosphere not related to work. Managing teleworkers may not be easy, especially because they also have to be integrated in the team on the personal level, not only professionally. To this purpose, the manager should organize periodic virtual meetings, or schedule visits to the headquarters of the company, in order to create a bond and allow employees to collaborate, brainstorm ideas or even create new projects.

Besides the elements of organizational culture of the company, the employer must also supervise the work of their employees. It is often believed that without a clear deadline or daily control, they will not perform on the highest standards. Communication is the key to success, and setting a clear standard will prevent blocking the workflow. Weekly or even daily discussions where clear tasks are established will help both the employer and the employees, while monthly feedback sessions can facilitate the collaboration. The manager should monitor its personnel, without making them feel controlled but rather accountable. To this purpose, technology offers many versions of monitoring teleworkers. There are special devices through which you can see for how long they work in their home offices, what they are using their computers for and which are the applications and programs they use. This equipment requires permanent internet access, and will store the data from the employee’s computers in real time, which is a great benefit for every company.
