Many women neglect their health in this is so-called fast running life. Apart from taking medication for their minor health issues, women many times neglect many things they are going under. There are clear signs of some health complications which affect the reproductive system and overall health of the body.
We are getting on the topic of PCOS – Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormone imbalance that affects around 1 out of 10 to 15 women. Even girls as young as 11 years old can get PCOS. Some of the most common signs that clearly show that one woman may have PCOS are:
Some common signs of PCOS include:
• No periods, irregular periods, or very heavy periods
• Pelvic pain
• Extra hair on your face or other parts of your body, called "hirsutism"
• Acne
• Weight gain or trouble losing weight
• Patches of dark, thick skin
If you can relate yourself with the above mentioned signs, then it is recommended that you see a doctor as soon as possible. However, you may face more than this too. The term "polycystic ovaries" means that there are lots of tiny cysts on the ovaries. Some young women with PCOS have these cysts, but many others do not. The good thing is that it doesn’t really harm you and thus not important that you get them removed. Let’s clearly understand PCOS symptoms and causes:
Doctors are unaware of the exact cause of PCOS. They believe that high levels of male hormones prevent the ovaries from producing hormones and making eggs normally. There is a belief that high levels of male sex hormones affect the production of hormones and making the eggs normally in the ovaries.
Genes, insulin resistance, and inflammation have all been linked to excess androgen production.
The most common PCOS symptoms are:
• Irregular periods: A lack of ovulation prevents the uterine lining from shedding every month. Some women with PCOS get fewer than eight periods a year.
• Heavy bleeding: The periods you do get can be heavier than normal.
• Hair growth: Excess hair growth is called hirsutism. More than 70 percent of women with this condition grow hair on their face and body — including on their back, belly, and chest.
• Acne: Male hormones can make the skin oilier than usual and cause breakouts on areas like the face, chest, and upper back.
• Weight gain: Overweight or obesity are clear signs of PCOS. 80% of women who have PCOS are obese.
• Male-pattern baldness: Hair on the scalp get thinner and fall out.
• Darkening of the skin: Dark patches of skin can form in body creases like those on the neck, in the groin, and under the breasts.
• Headaches: Hormone changes can trigger headaches in some women.
We can now see that the involvement of PCOS complications are high. There is no specific treatment too. All it needs is a lifestyle change. A healthy diet with regular exercises are recommended for every woman to make sure that their health is maintained and the PCOS they are suffering stop affecting the health of their reproductive system.
As mentioned that there are no definite ways to overcome PCOS.Doctors suggest that they need to maintain a healthy lifestyle, diet, and exercise. Apart from this many doctors also suggest birth control pills, this helps them to control their menstrual cycles and do not encourage the cysts to grow more.
