Your feet are one of the most important parts of your body. We use our feet consistently throughout the day and a lot of people will agree that feet are not the most attractive part of the body. Regardless of this, it’s really important to make sure you take care of your feet. They can go through a lot of wear and tear, so it’s important to properly look after them. Neglecting to look after your feet can lead to more serious problems, so taking care of them is essential.
There are a range of different things you can do to look after your feet. Here are our top tips:
Wash Regularly
This may seem like a bit of an obvious one, but making sure you properly wash your feet is essential. Simply standing in the shower is not going to cut it.
Make it a habit to at least wash your feet once a day, twice if you can. Use a soap or antibacterial cleanser with warm water to get rid of all the dirt, sweat and bacteria that might on your feet. Be careful not to use very hot water, as this can damage your feet and strip away natural oils from your skin.
After washing, it is essential to dry your feet thoroughly, especially in-between your toes. This will help avoid foot infections, such as athletes foot.
Moisturise Your Feet
Your feet go through a lot each day, and thus the skin can become very worn and in particular, you will find it will start to go hard. That can lead to the skin becoming dry and eventually cracked.
To prevent, be sure to moisturise your feet regularly. Once a day before you go to bed is a good idea, as your feet will not be in use, allowing them to absorb as much of the moisture as possible. Natural products such as coconut oil, cocoa butter or olive oil can also be effective.
Trim Those Toenails
You should be doing this on a regular basis anyway, but keeping your toenails nice and trimmed is absolutely essential, and one of the most important things to do when it comes to foot care.
Trimming your toenails should be done every couple of weeks, to make sure they are not overgrown. Use proper nail clippers only; do not use scissors. Try to trim them as straight as possible and never trim at an angle or down the edges, as this can lead to ingrown toenails, which are very painful.
Consistent Foot Pain? See a Specialist.
Of course, sometimes, no matter how well you look after your feet, you may suffer from more serious problems that require some professional attention. If this situation does arise, it is important to see a podiatrist sooner rather than later, as postponing getting the problem looked at can only make it worse.
There are a wide range of podiatrists available out there who will be able to cure your foot problems. Simply doing a search for podiatrist’s in your area, such as ‘podiatrist London’, will bring up a host of specialists on hand to help.
Make Sure Your Shoes Fit
Finally, this is an area of foot care which is the easiest and takes the least amount of time. Make sure you where proper fitting shoes! Having incorrectly fitted shoes can not only damage your feet, but can also have an impact on the rest of your body as well.
