In order for certain products to enter Eurasian Economic Union countries, they must have Eurasian Conformity (EAC) certification. EAC certification, demonstrated by the EAC Mark, represents compliance with safety and public health standards of Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
Manufacturers are responsible for knowing which EAC requirements apply to their products, and when misunderstood requirements hold things up in customs, delays can be costly. Here are the general categories of products that require EAC certification:
Products Used by Children and Teenagers
Products designed specifically for use by children and teenagers, including toys, attractions, and playground equipment, must be EAC-compliant.
Transportation
Different types of transportation must meet EAC safety standards, including elevators, ships, rail vehicles, high-speed trains, railway infrastructure, wheeled vehicles, and vehicles used for agriculture and forestry. In addition to the unit of transportation itself, EAC certification is required for any motor fuel, machinery, lighting, or electromagnetic devices used within it, as well as roadways themselves.
Food
Most food products exported to the Eurasian Economic Union are subject to EAC certification. There are also additional regulations for grain, juice, food additives, flavor enhancers, milk, meat, fish, oils, special dietetic foods, and foods that contain vegetables and fruits. Food products distributed in the EAEU must also meet EAC food marking requirements.
Hazardous Materials
If a product is potentially hazardous or dangerous for the public unless used in a very specific way, EAC regulations likely apply. Fireworks, chemicals, heavy machinery, explosives, fertilizer, and machines that use gaseous fuels or hazardous substances must all have EAC certification. In addition, certain safety devices like fire extinguishers and fire safety systems must be EAC-compliant.
Machine Components
In order to export machinery to EAEU countries, it’s important to consider if the components in the machine require EAC certification. There are EAC standards for motor fuel, gaseous fuel, low-voltage equipment, pressure equipment, hazardous substances, and general machinery.
Other Products
In addition to the categories above, there are other assorted products that require EAC certification: perfumes and cosmetics, tobacco products, personal protective equipment, packaging, and more. Consult the official list of products requiring EAC certification or an EAC declaration of conformity, or contact a compliance professional if you are unsure if your product falls under EAC requirements.
