Have you ever thought about how much you contribute to global warming? We all say that it is not us but others. The fact is that our contribution begins with our homes. Have we ever been mindful about what type of material are we disposing of and where does that go? The individualistic responsibility is what matters in the inclusive fight against global warming. Our disposal contains lots of different products. Among which some can decompose and others cannot. The things which do not decompose are called non-biodegradable waste like plastic. It is not just plastic, but lots of other such material is continuously and rapidly accumulating. Therefore, we must adhere to correct ways of disposing of non-biodegradable products. At home, we can shun the usage of non-biodegradable material and if so we should recycle and reuse them.
Generally, the best ways to cope up with non-biodegradable waste is to shrewdly use and fix them. Some of the ways to do so are:
1- Recycle:
Non-biodegradable waste is further categorized into categories based on their disposal. The non-biodegradable material that can be recycled is called recyclable waste. The best approach to deal with such waste is to recycle them. These material include glass, plastic, and metal. You can participate in your community recycling program, and if there is no such program, you can take recyclable waste to a collection facility for processing. You can also avail of a skip hire service. The cheapest skip hire services perform the greatest tasks. You do not need to separate waste, as they do it themselves so that very little waste could go into landfills. Recycling waste helps you in reusing the same material without drawing new material from mines and manufacturers.
2- Combustion:
Though combustion itself is not good for the air, burning non-biodegradable material to produce any other facility is worth it. Biodegradable material as rubber and plastic can be burnt to make energy in the form of steam or electricity. It, in turn, culminates the need for non-renewable resources like petroleum and coal.
3- Landfill:
It is one of the oldest waste disposal strategy that provides a confined area to waste. Landfill though is a longterm storage space for non-biodegradable waste, but its over-accumulation is perilous. It must be assured that the non-biodegradable material is recycled and reused in such a way that a very little of it is left to go into landfill. They are the areas established to avoid contamination from moving into soil and water.
4- Disposal of Toxic Waste:
Toxic and hazardous waste includes paints, petrol and kerosene, medicines, chemical fertilizers, batteries, bulbs, and fluorescent tubes etc. Luckily, we can recycle some of the toxic waste like fluorescent bulbs, cleaning fluids, oil-based paints, glues, and garden chemicals. But you should always know the rules in your country whether or not you are allowed to add toxic material in the waste. Secondly, you can also request a mail-in recycling kit. Many waste management services provide this facility. The services will mail you a container to fill the toxic waste and you will re-mail it when it is filled.
To make it easy and efficient disposal, you should start segregating waste. You can do it by placing different bins for different types of waste. You must also start a compost pit at your home. Because it is legally advised and secondly, it is a good activity for enhancing wholesome disposing strategies.
