When to Travel to China

China has a monsoon climate which means they have a very cold northwest wind in winter and during summer there are warm southeasterly winds. If you do not enjoy the cold weather then summer may be the best time to travel for you, however China is also beautiful in the winter time. There really is not right time to travel to China, it is one of the few places where there are wonderful things to see and do in all seasons.

Etiquette

In China as with all countries, China has its own set off behaviors and etiquette, some of which may seem a little strange at first sight however which need to be respected all the same. You should be aware that handshaking is a formal greeting for the Chinese so is generally not used for a casual greeting. If you are formally meeting someone then a short handshake is the norm.

It is also regular for the Chinese to give gifts to people in both business and private relationships. You do not have to partake in this however it is good to be aware of the custom.

Water

Many rural Chinese residents drink water from lakes, rivers and natural springs although it is not considered really safe. Visitors should stick to bottled water where possible to ensure no reaction to the local tap water.

Currency

The local currency of the People's Republic of China is the Chinese Yuan or Renminbi.
