Designing the Poster:
Posters should be attractive. It is intended to call your attention from a distance with its graphic design and brilliant colors. Laborious text and lengthy explanations should be placed in brochures or flyers which can be brought home and read.
• People read from left to right, top going down. Follow the natural flow of how the eyes scan the page when placing your design. The most important information should be found in the top left or top center, while the least important should be placed in the bottom right.
• They should be well balanced. The visual elements should be spaced out equally throughout the poster. Leave empty spaces between design elements. This will differentiate one element from another, and will prevent your poster from looking messy and cluttered.
• Communicate your difference. Create a signature style that differentiates you from competition and will automatically be associated you’re your business. One way to translate your brand name visually is to use colors and illustrations that can instantly be associated with your business. Be consistent in your choice of colors.
Conceptualizing the Content:
Who is your target audience? You can divide your marketing groups in several ways. You can divide into geography or their physical location, demographics, psychographics, or behavioral variables.
a) Geography simply categorizes you group according to their physical locations and proximity. Local or international, populous cities and such.
b) Demographics refer to the age, gender, economic status, language, religion, education, etc of your customers
c) Psychographics pertain to their interest, personality, lifestyles, attitudes, etc.
d) Consumer behavior focuses on studying how customers make their purchase decisions and the factors that affect such decision.
Communication:
Making assumptions about your customers will help you know what they can hope to benefit from your services. This will help you present them with benefits of your products or services.
• What is your unique selling point? How are you products different from the rest of the businesses? Unless you differentiate your selling point, your customers can attribute the benefits you offer to other businesses who sell the same or similar items.
• In which context is your selling point most valuable? The value of your products change according to context. A heavy duty flash light is indispensible in a dark jungle, water is life saving in a hot desert, and a diamond ring is priceless in the hands of your fiancé. Find the context which makes your product indispensible.
• Your large sized print ads become more effective when they build up on each other. Your large format printing should match the marketing message of your other marketing media be it flyers, brochures, or billboards. You should also remember to include your web address and store location on top of everything else.
