Years ago Bruce Lee asked that question trying to prove a point and the correct answer on which is better and hand grenade or switchblade is… well… it depends. If you happened to be fighting in a telephone booth, then the hand grenade is pretty useless.
Bruce was using the question to describe his opinion on which is better in combat, hand techniques, foot techniques or grappling. Of course his opinion was it all depends on the range your opponent is at the time of the attack. If he is at punching range … punch, and if he is at kicking range… then kick, and when you are at grappling range you had better hope that you are equally versed in those techniques as well.
We see the same debate going on in the business and investing world too.
What is the best entity and structure of your business? Well again it depends. It depends on what you like to do and what you want your business to look like 5 years from now. Depending on your goals, you design the business around your personal needs. Many people do it backwards and try to figure out how to have a life after they are done working, when in reality you should design your business around your likes and dislikes. Your business success depends on how logical your approach is and how well you implement the rules towards achieving your goals.
Even in real estate investing, it depends. What is a deal for one person may not be a deal for someone else. Price point, exit strategy and method of funding will play a big part on whether a deal is a good deal for you or not.
The same is true with your marketing. There are hundreds of way to find opportunities for you business including a variety of medias, methods and systems of delivery. Which is best for your business again depends. As a general rules we tell our students to use them all in some form or fashion. When asked how to get 20 new customers a month we usually respond that we are not sure but I bet I could come up with 20 ways to get one new client.
So whether you are practicing the martial arts, investing in real estate, or trying to figure out how to double your income in your own business, what you should be focusing on at any given time to round out your success abilities, depends.
We never have enough time to do everything but we always have enough time to do the most important thing. To identify what would be the perfect weapon for you to be using at any given time, you need to have clearly defined goals and a true understand of what resource you have currently and what new information you need to get in order to accomplish you next set of action plans.
So no matter what your job or business is, what is your hand grenade and what is your switch blade… and when do you choose to use each one depends upon the situation to where it appropriately applies. What matters is how you are able to utilize any kind of weapon at hand that could just give you the benefit that you need and want.
Terry Bryan has been called the "Warriorwiz" and the "Black Belt Investor Millionaire Maker" because of his un-canning ability to use traditional military and martial arts principles in conjunction with business systems, creative real estate investing, etc., to help his students get the life they deserve.
