When you are getting ready to purchase a home in Fairfield County or another area of Connecticut, you will be deciding which real estate agent can serve you best. Do you know which one can? There are probably thousands of real estate agents in Connecticut alone! Here are a few tips and tricks to help you decide on the best real estate agent for you!
What to Ask –
You need to ask real estate agents questions before you decide to go with a particular one. This is so you can get a feel for how they work as well as learning some pretty valuable information. One of the most important questions is if your real estate agent is a member of a Ct MLS. This is a Connecticut Multiple Listing Service and will allow your agent to be able to find you a home anywhere in the county and sometimes even the state. However, they have to be a part of an MLS. So, remember to ask this in case there are better deals somewhere else or something that you simply have to have.
What to Look for –
No matter what, you need to feel comfortable with your agent. Spend some time talking to different agents before you commit. You have to be able to tell you real estate agent no! This requires a certain amount of comfort and if your agent intimidates you, the relationship is not going to be good. A real estate agent should not ever try to push you into doing something that you don't want to do. So, when you talk to a few different real estate agents, be sure that you feel comfortable with one of them before you choose!
What to Listen for –
When you are interested in certain homes, whether it's from the Ct. MLS or something you've found on your own, pay attention to the way your agent responds if you tell him or her that the home is too expensive. Does he or she immediately respect you and go searching for something that is differently priced? Does he or she try to give you some sort of discount in some way? Does he or she explain the benefits and why the property is priced the way it is? In whatever their reply is, are they serving your needs the best? This is very important because although they have other clients that they have to make happy, when they make a real effort with you, it's great!
Pay attention to these things and use your intuition to help you decide if a particular real estate agent is the one for you or not! Use the tricks and tips above to help you find that perfect agent that you will appreciate and benefit from.
When I was house hunting it was a long search before I finally found a low pressure gentleman that gave us access to CT MLS information. The CT MLS is the real estate agent database. Now that I am also a real estate agent (and working for the same broker that helped me find a home) I also make a CT MLS real estate search available to anyone that wants to access it. Even if they are not my client.
Happy House Hunting,
Scott Jenkins
