When you are looking at building your MLM business, its a good idea to find what is working for others, and see how you can utilize it for yourself. Don't start from scratch, if you don't have too. In anything you want to do, it's always helpful to look for a model first. Look for a person who has already done what you want, and take a close look at exactly what they did and how they did it. You don't need to duplicate every step of their plan, but when you understand the parts of that model, you can save yourself a lot of trial and error. You have put yourself in a much closer position to success. That's just another way of saying, "Don't re-invent the wheel."
In Internet marketing, one model that has risen to the top over the years is the single product page. The normal inclination of most people in network marketing when they sell products is to offer a choice of several or many products on the same page. Most MLM websites seem to feature a virtual catalog of dozens or hundreds of products. That works when a person is looking to find a particular product to buy. But in the case of MLM, you rarely have buyers like that. Mostly, they are just looking. And they're overwhelmed by all the choices, so they click away. The correct solution is, follow the "single page" model. Put a single product on a website and drive targeted traffic to that page. That model works. If your MLM company does not do this, you may want to look around for one that does.
It's important to really target the exact people who will build your network marketing business. You have a lot of markets to choose from. Pro mailers have learned the best ways to target the best prospects to mail to. And in that business, it is very, very expensive to make a mistake when you mail. Successful mailers say that what makes money isn't the mailing piece they send out - it is the names on the list they mail to. You'll probably think this is weird, but the top criteria to be able to predict whether a person will buy is, has this person bought the same thing before? Sounds like it couldn't possibly be right, but it is the truth. Mail order dealers who know what they're doing mail exclusively to people who have already bought the exact same thing, or something very similar. Why would that work? Because you are dealing with someone who has raised their hand and identified themselves as a person interested in exactly what you are selling. So your best MLM prospects are NOT the general public. Your top prospects are frustrated network marketers still searching for the opportunity that will give them the success they want.
Michael Dlouhy explores these ideas and a lot more in the free ebook "Success In 10 Steps." I was putting together a MLM keyword list a couple years ago, and I noticed something interesting. In this particular search engine results, 75% (!) of the top 20 MLM-related search terms had to do with "leads!" That's a pretty good clue about the #1 focus of network marketers, that was it for me. Obviously it makes sense. To win the network marketing game a steady stream of targeted, interested people to talk to. That's the big reason Dlouhy's ebook has been so popular over the years. It targets exactly the people you want in your business, which makes it perfect as part of your own lead generation system. Very workable plan.
