Start A Consumer Research Business - It's FREE!
Almost everyone has heard of paid online surveys and focus groups. You've probably heard some pretty outrageous claims and may be a bit jaded by the barrage of advertisements clogging up the internet.
$75-300 an hour!
Come on. Really? This is just plain misleading. A focus group may pay this kind of cash for an hour or two of your time, but this will never become an hourly (or even daily, for that matter) occurrence. Never. One focus group a week and you're doing pretty well.
So what's my point?
Paid surveys and focus groups are merely one small aspect of a much broader field. The field is Consumer Research. And by utilizing most or ALL of the opportunities available to you within the field of consumer research, you will be richly rewarded with a lucrative business of your very own!
These opportunities include:
Mystery Shopping.
Vehicular Advertising (Paid To Drive).
Paid Online Photo Submission.
Video Game Research (Paid To Play).
Paid To Watch Movies.
Paid To Write.
Paid To Eat.
Product Testing (Paid To Sample).
By no means do I suggest you abandon the idea of taking surveys and participating in focus groups. These are the backbone of paid Consumer Research! However, they cannot stand alone as your only method of making a living on your own terms. And that's great, because these other jobs make your business more fun and adventurous, not to mention profitable!
As this article's title suggests, you can start your very own consumer research business for FREE! How many other business opportunities can make that claim? This is not to say that you won't incur a few small expenses along the way. You can START for free, then use some of your earnings to expand your business.
What do I mean specifically? You can start with surveys. There are lots of paid survey lists available on the web for FREE. But I caution you: Be careful which companies you sign up with when using a free list. Half will be legit, while the other half will be sales pages. Any "survey company" that asks you if you're interested in this offer or that should be avoided.
But I digress. When you start signing up for and taking surveys, you'll begin to earn some money. I would advise you not to spend your earnings, but to instead pay a membership fee to start mystery shopping, or any of the other fun tasks listed above. With those earnings, pay another membership fee and do something else.
Continue this until you're doing it all! You'll have more work than you can possibly do in a day. But that's okay! Just do what you want. Remember, when you Start A Consumer Research Business, you answer only to yourself. You're your own boss. Work as much as you want, or work as little as you want!
If you'd like to start big, of course, I do recommend that you pay a membership fee for your survey and focus group lists, as well. It's faster, as you're not sorting out a bunch of rotten apples.
Every survey company on their list has been thoroughly reviewed and deemed legitimate, reliable, and profitable.
