At one time or another everyone of us has thought how great it would be to have our own business. Let's face it, we would do things differently. We'd treat our employees better, have great benefits, a relaxed working environment, more time off, shorter hours, higher pay and regular pay raises and lots of bonuses. OK!! If that's what you're thinking, maybe opening a business where other people depend on you for their livelihood is not a real good idea right now.

Starting and running a business is no cake walk and the bigger it gets the harder it will be. So maybe we should think smaller for the time being. Let's think about working from home and building that into something that will eventually allow us to stop working for someone else. If things go really good, over time we may be able to hire a couple of people to help us out.

Every month there are more than 300,000 searches on the Internet for a "home business". I just did a search for "home business" in Google and came up with 24,100,000 results. Now I'll break down each on of those. Just kidding!!

When we talk about working from home today, it's a lot different than it used to be. In the past working from home meant stuffing envelopes or assembling cheap jewelry. Later we were selling Avon, Kirby vacuum cleaners, Amway or something similar. Things began to change when Excel and World Connect came along. Then we sold telephone long distance and pagers (remember pagers) to family and friends. Now the Internet has once again changed how we will "work from home".

So what now? Well obviously with all of the "opportunities" out there it is more important than ever to do your research. One thing I suggest you do, right away, is go to your favorite search engine and type in the name of the opportunity you may be considering. You can also use the name of the guru who is offering to make you rich. In either case follow it immediately with the word "review". I guarantee that if the opportunity has been around for a few months or more, somebody has posted their opinion somewhere and the results will come up. Just keep and eye on the web address in the results. Sometimes the same people offering the opportunity will write their own review and you can probably guess how that looks. Anyway, just like you are going to fully research an opportunity, you should also carefully check through the reviews and not depend on just one.

That's just a start. Try finding people, locally or on line, who have tried the opportunity and find out why they think they were successful or failed. Check with the BBB in the state where the business resides and see if there are any complaints. Please read and listen carefully when dealing with reviews and complaints. In some cases you will learn that the company was really not at fault but rather the "customer" had unrealistic expectations. Also be careful of your own expectations. THERE IS NO OPPORTUNITY THAT IS GOING TO MAKE YOU RICH OVERNIGHT OR REQUIRES NO WORK ON YOUR PART!!
