For U.S. active-duty deployed overseas soldiers there are many different ways to earn college credit. Some of these ways include distance learning and correspondence opportunities, seminars, and credit for different military training.
One popular choice for active duty deployed soldiers is American Military University, an accredited online university with more than 100 degree and certificate programs including Associate, Bachelor's, and Master's level degrees. While AMU programs are designed for adults working in the public and private sector, AMU is appealing to American soldiers.
AMU comprises of more than 40,000 students from 100 countries. Most AMU students are adult learners, holding positions within every branch and specialty within the military and at organizations that include the State Department, the New York Police Department and the Transportation Security Agency.
The University offers liberal arts and professional studies degrees. The University also offers specialized programs with a focus in the areas of homeland security, national security and public safety.
Students come to AMU from around the globe and have varying educational backgrounds including first-time college students, undergrad transfer student, graduate student and international student. AMU students also have diverse educational and career goals.
American Military University (AMU) provides high-quality, affordable distance education to students around the globe. We have no resident or non-resident students, so tuition is not based on a student’s geographical location or home of record.
Active-deployed overseas soldiers like AMU because all of AMU’s courses are delivered on the Internet and active-deployed soldiers can continue taking courses during their deployment. Thousands of AMU’s students are currently active-duty deployed soldiers.
AMU alumni have gone on to work all over the world in various positions in various fields including including intelligence, security management, military management, government agencies and contractors, and more.
Another popular way for service members to earn college credit is through credit by Exam, also known as CLEP. This is a program arranged by the U.S. military and is a pass/fail system. This is a popular choice because the military usually pays for any costs and fees associated with it.
If neither of these options works for a soldier, there are always the various traditional military universities and colleges to consider. Many of these schools participate in the College Loan Repayment Program, an enlistment incentive authorized by Congress. Like many other enlistment incentives, the military will re-pay a portion of eligible college loans for non-prior service members.
