Colour analysis, for many women, will be about helping them achieve a coordinated look with their clothes. It means choosing clothes in colours that bring out the best in them and make them look younger, fitter and healthier. But many women don’t realise that as well as helping them to choose clothes, colour analysis will also help them to choose the best shades of make-up. This is extremely useful to many women who have searched endlessly for the perfect lipstick or blusher often without success.
If you’ve found it hard in the past to choose a lipstick or blusher that works for you, identify which dominant type is closest to your colouring and follow the tips below:
Light (naturally blonde, blue/green/grey eyes, fair skin e.g. Cameron Diaz)
Deep (dark brown or black hair, dark brown eyes e.g. Catherine Zeta Jones)
Warm (red hair tones, warm skin tone – golden or fair with freckles e.g. Tilda Swinton )
Cool (ash blonde or grey hair tones, cool skin tone – pinkish or olive e.g. Judi Dench)
Clear (dark hair, light skin, clear blue/green/topaz eyes e.g. Courtney Cox)
Soft (light to medium brown hair, little contrast between hair, skin and eyes e.g. Kylie Minogue)
-
Lights . Blushers - Light pinks or peaches will look natural on the lights. Dark brownish or burnt orange shades will be far too obvious and harsh. Lipstick - Again pastel shades will look great, as will light, feminine glosses.
-
Deeps . Blushers - The blushers that will work need to be quite strong and definite and have a brown, terracotta or burgundy tone depending on your skin tone. Lipstick - Again strong browns, burgundy, reds and plum shades will work well. Pastels will drain you and on photographs people will wonder where your lips are!
-
Warms . Blushers - These need to be peach, coral, salmon or bronze shades. Pinkish tones will fight your own colouring. Lipstick - Peaches, coppers, topaz, spicy oranges will bring the look together. Again avoid pinky shades.
-
Cools . Blushers - Cool shades from light rose to deeper port will appear healthy and harmonious. Avoid any orange or brown tones. Lipstick - Again, lighter rose pinks will work as will deeper cerise, fuchsia and raspberry tones. Think about the depth of your own colouring and your personality when choosing your lipstick.
-
Clears . Blushers - The cheeks need to be medium depth with a little brightness. Lipstick - Bright reds, oranges and pinks look stunning. Softer shades need to be very glossy to balance your bright look.
-
Softs . Blushers - Soft pinks or browns work well. Bright shades will be too obvious. Lipstick - Medium depth, muted pinks, browns and peaches are the best for you. Deep plums or bright reds will be too harsh.
If you’re still unsure about which shades will work for you, why not book a consultation with an image consultant who will help you achieve a make-up look that will work perfectly with your own colouring.
