There’s really no question about it. Paid work at home jobs are fast becoming the workplace of the future. But other than that, paid work at home jobs today are clearly thriving and saving companies millions of dollars.
According to Jeanette Barlow, marketing manager for IBM Lotus, about 25 percent of IBM’s 320,000 workers worldwide are paid work at home employees. This means that they telecommute from their home offices. The overall impact is a total savings of $700 million in real estate costs.
Paid work at home jobs can cause big companies, such as IBM, to reap additional benefits. It has been said that paid work at home jobs can result in higher worker productivity and a happier work force. And since both can lead to the other, paid work at home opportunities therefore promotes a sort of symbiotic effect which works well with the company.
As Barlow said, IBM’s success in paid work at home jobs has caused the company to expand its virtual workplace program. Since the launching of the paid work at home job program in 1995, more and more of their employees are now telecommuting from their homes.
Following the success of IBM, several hundreds of giant corporations and small businesses have also decided to tap into the job market for paid work at home opportunities. During the past decade, many have launched formal telecommuting programs to help increase productivity in the workplace.
In Texas, big companies such as Mobil, Frito Lay, Texas Instruments, Xerox, AT&T, J.C. Penney, and hundreds of small businesses now allow their workers to telecommute or engage in paid work at home jobs.
To be sure, paid work at home opportunities are fast becoming the norm in the work force. In fact, some companies even consider telecommuting or paid work at home programs as just the way to do business. Pharmaceutical companies such as Abbott Laboratories have been using mobile workers for years. Seeing how this type of employment gives them an edge in productivity, they have also joined the paid work at home work craze. Now, sales representatives start their morning in their home office and then spend their day making sales calls to doctor’s offices. One of the biggest advantages of paid work at home jobs is that you can carry out the same tasks you do in your regular job but with more efficiency for you will be working from home, on more familiar turf.
Government agencies such as the Texas Workforce Commission, Texas Department of Transportation, and Texas comptroller’s office also have formal paid work at home or telecommuting programs. It seems that the state encourages telecommuting in order to reduce pollution and time wasted in traffic.
Each day, two out of every three cards on the road in the United States hit congestion, according to a Texas Transportation Institute study which was released in June. The study further said that this costs U.S. commuters $67 billion in lost time alone, plus wasted fuel and vehicle wear and tear. By taking a paid work at home job, you not only reduce traffic but you also help lessen noise and air pollution.
