For working professionals looking to upgrade their skills and advance in their career, an executive MBA programme is like a boon. It is their chance to gain a master’s degree in Business Administration without having to take a long break and letting their work suffer. The schedule of the executive MBA programme is such that one can minimize the interruption in work and other personal responsibilities. During an Executive MBA (EMBA) programme, the curriculum and the class structure is such that the students are imparted new skills and their analytic abilities are sharpened under expert guidance. The course duration is generally one or two years. The course is imparted in an executive setting. The coursework is combined with day-to-day professional experience to make the most of the executive setting.
As the name suggests, an executive MBA is for those executives only who hold prior work experience. This brings a rich cumulative professional experience to the classroom which helps in enriching the educational environment. All the participants share their experience and deal situations with a unique approach which leads to a lot of learning for the fellow participants of the course. In the class room, a team approach is incorporated to let all the students benefit from the distinct perspectives on various topics. With such collective experience, there develops a challenging, stimulating learning environment conducive for growth and analytical abilities of the students.
Some students sponsor their executive MBA programme on their own while others are sponsored by the organization that they are working for. This means that they are still in the pay rolls of the company and are given time off to pursue an MBA while the company pays for it. On completion of the programme, these executives return to their firms to implement the knowledge and skills gathered during the executive MBA programme. Employers choose to invest in the skill upgradation programme of their employees because they understand the importance of advantage of having an employee whose management skills have been honed in a competitive environment among experts. For those who don’t find sponsors can go for the executive MBA through loans, scholarships or other financial aid. Keeping in mind he investment made by students in this programme, the class structure is kept such that it allows for maximum interaction between students and the faculty.
After an executive MBA, participants can look forward to a leap in their career. Since an MBA degree develops a refined level of knowledge and skills regarding a huge range of contemporary and relevant management issues, the MBA graduates are lapped up by various industries immediately. With an executive MBA programme, one can boast of both the work experience as well as an MBA degree which makes for a desirable combination in terms of career growth. Even if you keep working within the same organization, you can look forward to promotions and a more responsible or leadership role after the executive MBA. If you are an entrepreneur, the MBA can help you take your venture to the next level of success by implementing the strategic techniques learnt during the programme.
The curriculum offered during an EMBA programme, is generally the same as that offered during a regular MBA. Subjects such as accounting, management, marketing, finance, statistics and information systems are included in the programme. These courses are covered in an accelerated time period. However, the unique feature about an executive MBA is that this course is enhanced by the diverse and extensive professional experience of the participants of the programme. The course is structured in a way to leverage the time available to the maximum possible extent for the benefit of the participants. Also, senior and experienced faculty is employed as main instructors.
Executive MBA courses are offered by reputed institutes and colleges in India and abroad. There is an option to pursue it through correspondence too from some universities but that is not of much importance. Hence, a regular executive programme is the best to pursue. Since an MBA is like an investment into your future and career, it should be taken seriously. For working professionals and entrepreneurs without an MBA, it is the best way to enhance their career. An executive MBA can do what years of experience may not be able to accomplish in terms of career growth.
