Perhaps one of the most uncomfortable parts of having a cold or flu is a the dreaded sore throat or in medical term, pharyngitis which means a painful inflammation felt in the tonsils, pharynx, or the larynx.
A sore throat is a symptom of many illness but the major cause of sore throat is infection. These infections can be caused by viruses like the flu and common cold or by certain types of bacteria such as strep, mycoplasma, or hemophilus that cause the inflammation.
A sore throat is usually the result of a chill. Milk, and milk products are harmful in such a condition. Take a glass of lukewarm water with a spoonful of honey in the morning and before sleep at night. Apply a cold compress to the throat and cover the compress with a woolen cloth. For a week take only bread, vegetables and fruits.
The belleric myrobalan, commonly known as behera in Ayurvedic parlance, is a popular Indian household remedy for coughs. The pulp of its fruit is taken. This pulp is mixed with salt, long pepper and honey. This is given for allaying the problems of sore throat. Instead of this preparation, its fried fruit can also be covered with wheat flour and then roasted on a low flame.
First of all, increase your liquid intake as it helps to hydrate dry mucous membranes and keeps your throat coated with moisture.
Mild, warm and soothing drinks like ginger n honey tea, holly basil n clove tea, decaffeinated coffee, and warm water with lemon and honey are some of the best natural health remedies for sore throats.
Prepare the gargle of fenugreek seeds by putting two tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in a litre of cold water and allowed this to simmer for half an hour over a low flame. This should then be allowed to cool to a supportable temperature, strained, and then used completely as a gargle.
Reduce to pulp one ginger root, add to this 1/3 cup of boiling water and one tablespoon of sugar. Drink when it's slightly humid. One of the most well liked sore throat home remedies
Blend an uncooked egg yolk, one tablespoon of sugar and one tablespoon of brandy Swallow after every 15 minutes as this will give relief.
Cover one half of a lemon with salt and pepper and press with a knife or the back of a spoon so that the salt and pepper absorbs into the lemon. Warm the lemon either in the oven or in the microwave. Do not overheat. When it is warm, slowly lick the lemon, squeezing it at the same time until there is no more juice. Repeat this 2 to 3 times daily.
A gargle made from fenugreek seeds has been found to be a very efficient remedy for treating a sore throat. To make this gargle, two tablespoons of fenugreek seeds should be put in a liter of cold water and allowed to simmer for 1/2 hour over a low flame.
This should then be allowed to cool to a manageable temperature, strained, and then used completely as a gargle.
