A first-aid kit is a convenient item to have whether it's for your home, car or business. Not only does it save you time, but it also saves money. As well, a first aid kit offers the very best way to treat a number of emergencies, from the minor "owie" to the more serious injuries while the ambulance is on the way!

Personally, I keep a stocked first-aid kit downstairs and upstairs. I have children, one of whom is a very active 6-year-old boy. I've treated several scraped knees and elbows just this last month! Having the plasters handy not only saves me time, but it cuts the tears quickly and helps prevent infection. The sooner you can clean and treat a wound, the better chance you have of preventing serious infection. Have you ever tried to keep a 6-year-old boy clean? Nearly impossible mate!

The first aid kit should definitely contain some antibiotic ointment, not only to prevent infection but also to minimize scarring. When you have everything together in one handy box or bag, you are more likely to redress wounds more often which will promote fast healing and less scarring.

It's also a good idea to have a first aid kit in your car. Hopefully, you'll never have cause for using this kit in the event of a car accident, but if you do suffer from a laceration with heavy bleeding, applying direct pressure with a blood-stopper dressing may just save your life. Sterile gloves are also a good item in your car's first aid kit if you need to help another person in the accident. Beyond such tragic events, you might find your car's first aid kit to come in handy when you're out and about. Blisters from new shoes can ruin a day of shopping, but if you have a handy first aid kit, you'll be able to save the day!

It's imperative to have a first-aid kit, well-stocked, in any industrial setting. Have one or more employees in charge of maintaining the kit and placing orders for depleted items. While first-aid kits are mandatory in the workplace where heavy, dangerous equipment is used, offices, restaurants and other businesses can benefit from these as well. Little cuts and burns can interfere with your employee's performance if left untreated. Left uncovered, your employees may infect the food they are preparing or ruin an item of clothing they are handling at the checkout.
