Are you interested in an MLM business and are trying to figure a legitimate one versus a scheme or scam? It's important to note that just because a business runs with multi level marketing, this doesn't mean it's a scam or scheme. In reality, pyramid schemes and illegal schemes try to disguise themselves as a legitimate MLM business, so there is a big difference. How can you tell the difference between the two? How do you know what to look for when it comes to a real business versus one that's just a scheme and possibly even illegal? Let's take a look at the difference between a real MLM business and a scheme that isn't legitimate at all.
A real MLM business works simply by compensating its salespersons for sales made by those who work under them. If you begin to sell a product and then recruit salespersons for the same product, the company you represent may compensate you for the sales of those you've recruited. There is nothing wrong with this and many companies work this way. Think of home parties for products where those at the party are encouraged to have parties of their own. The original host or hostess may get a gift or bonus depending on how many parties are booked from their original party. This is an example of an MLM business and it's done for many products and many companies, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pyramid schemes and scams are those that try to pass themselves off as an MLM business but rather than selling a product and compensating salespersons for those sales, they instead charge fees from those they recruit. This means that you don't just sell their product but you pay a fee for the privilege of doing so! These are scams because they make the majority of their money from those fees and not from actual sales of products. A legitimate MLM business will mean selling a product, and you should never have to pay a fee of any type in order to actually work for a company. These fees may be referred to as licensing rights or some other label, but they're still fees and it's still a scheme that is not a legitimate MLM business.
If you are offered the opportunity to sell a product whether it's online or in person, you simply need to investigate a bit to find out if it's a legitimate MLM business or not. You shouldn't be obligated to pay a fee to sell a product, but someone being compensated for your sales isn't inappropriate or illegal, and neither is the idea of you being compensated for the sales of those you've recruited. This is simply a type of pay structure that rewards those who recruit others and many businesses work this way. A legitimate MLM business will sell a real product but won't charge you to sell that product, and it's a great way to make money if you try it!
