Colwyn Bay is Beautiful little town situated on the North Wales coast in Conwy. Colwyn Bay is easily accessible as the A55 road runs through the town, but also Colwyn Bay has a railway station which connects up directly with Manchester, Holyhead, Crewe, Birmingham New Street, Cardiff and London Euston.
Lots of people each year visit Colwyn Bay as it’s a nice day out with lots of things to do. The main attractions of Colwyn Bay are The Welsh Mountain Zoo, Colwyn Bay Pier and beach, Pwllycrochan Woods, Eirias Park, and Colwyn Bay Shopping Centre.
The Welsh Mountain Zoo is situated on the side of the hill at the back of Colwyn Bay. The Zoo benefits from a large natural area with stunning views down to the coastline. The whole family can spend a great day at the zoo with lots of things to do and see. You can learn about endangered and rare species, and also watch the daily chimpanzee, sea lion, bird, and penguin shows. The Zoo has its own restaurant and Picnic area which will cater for your lunch. These are situated next to the adventure playground, so your little ones can run around after they have finished their lunch. The Welsh Mountain Zoo also has its own children’s farm where children can enter the farm and get up close and interact with the Zoos friendly animals. After your day in the Zoo you can visit the souvenir shop, so you can remember your day out at the Welsh Mountain Zoo forever. The Welsh Mountain Zoo has a free minibus service that will take you to the Zoo from the train station.
A lot of people visit Colwyn Bay for the beautiful beach. You can enjoy the beach throughout the year, suitable for the whole family. You can bring a picnic, or play games, go for a walk, or simply fish. Colwyn Bay beach has a number of refreshment cafes stretched across the shore right up to Rhos-on-Sea where there are lots of pubs, cafes, and restaurants which line the coast. Colwyn Bays Victorian Pier is also situated just of the Colwyn Bay beach. Her you can enjoy nice refreshments, play in the arcade, or buy a permit for fishing.
Colwyn Bay has its own local nature reserve called Pwllycrochan Woods. This woodland is situated on the slopes behind Colwyn Bay. The woodland is full of a beautiful variety of nature including native trees and exotic including firs and sweet chestnut. There are lots of birds to be seen in the woods like the Buzzard, Nuthatch, Great spotted woodpecker, Jay and the Tawny Owl. The woodland has many footpaths running through it with educational panels which help guide you through the history and wildlife of the woods.
Colwyn Bay also has its own 50 acre public Park called Eirias Park. Within this park are a leisure centre with swimming pool and health suit, athletics arena, tennis courts, bowling greens, boating lake, children’s play area, and a picnic area. With all these things to do, and also a café located in the leisure centre, it’s a great place to spend the day.
In the centre of Colwyn Bay is the Colwyn Bay shopping Centre the Bay View. Here a visitor can enjoy high street names and lots of smaller local shops to purchase gifts and Welsh souvenirs from their Colwyn Bay visit. In the town centre there is also lots of exciting pubs, restaurants, and cafes you can visit for reasonably priced food, and a great night out, with local bands and DJs playing on the weekends.
Colwyn Bay is really a great day out for the whole family, and if you are visiting make sure you enjoy these main attractions, as they really are heart of the Town.
