One thing that every business entrepreneur needs; it is that small box to put their information in. It is called a business card.
Something as small as a business card can make or break your business, did you know that? If you hand out 100 business cards to people you have personally talked with and no one calls you for more information, then you have a problem. You should have received at least 3 calls from every 100 cards, no matter if your presentation was a mess or not.
The reason I say this is because of human nature, 3 people will want to either get to know you, or get to know your business, or they need a friend themselves, someone they can make listen to their problems. This is just the way it is.
If it has not happened that way for you, then look at your business card, there may be a problem with it. Most people forget about the box they carry around and hand out, but it reflects who you are and what you are all about.
Look at your name first; ask your self this question: Can people pronounce my name easily. I know you can and your friends and family can but the truth is some names, just like mine are hard to pronounce, and if a stranger can not say your name but they wanted to call, that one fact will stop them at the phone, before they ever dial it. They will think to themselves, "I can’t say the name and I do not want to FEEL stupid." and they will not call you.
If your name is harder to pronounce than most, consider making it simpler, maybe just like me; only use your first name. Or maybe you can shorten your name or use a nick name. You want your prospect to FEEL comfortable calling you and asking for you by name.
If a prospect calls and says your name wrong, DO NOT correct them on the pronunciation, this will make them feel bad right away, and they will start apologizing for not being able to pronounce your name, because they FEEL bad. DO NOT do this to your prospects ever. Instead, say something like, "Hi there, you know my friends call me Bob and I would like it if you would call me Bob too" and say this with a smile. This type of greeting kills many birds with one stone, right away your prospect FEELS great for calling you, it is a name you can have them pronounce and they will remember it because you have introduced them into your circle of "FRIENDS." It also makes them FEEL closer to you and more apt to listen to you. Ok, so you do not have a nick name, then make one. You are only limited by the rules you make for yourself.
Now let me move on to another area of your business card, your web site. I have looked at hundreds of business cards, and it is always a surprise to see that the website is the smallest thing on the card and sometimes I can not even read it without a magnifying glass. Come on people, are you kidding me. Let me real, if you are trying to promote your website and have your prospects go there and look at the products and the business, why in the world would that be the smallest thing on your card?
Really, think about this? Your name is probably the largest thing on the card. Your name, not your website. Hummm? Most card manufacturing companies on line, are just computer programs, you can put your website in the place they provide for you name. You can think out side of the box. You can change the size and font. You can place your phone number in any box you wish.
Another question, why do you need your address on the card? You do not, you can put a slogan in place of you address. Come up with something that is fun and catchy for your business, put some thought into it, brain storm with a friend or relative. I will give you mine as an example: In the address line I put "Go Green, Smoke Clean." This gives my prospects something to think about and remind them of our conversation. I always point the slogan out to them when I hand them the card and ask what they think of it? This way the next time they look at my card they will see it and remember me. This has changed the number of calls I receive from 3 out of 100, to about 9 out of 100 cards. This is a dramatic increase from my past business cards. Have fun with this, you can always come up with something fun and short.
Moving on to the next part of your business card, colors. Yes it is true that most people will choose a card that has their favorite colors. Sometimes this is a real bad idea. I have seen some truly horrific business cards or just plain nothing, boring, white cards. Using the color wheel you can choose your colors much more carefully, colors that will enlist a good, trusting FEELING in your prospect. As you look through the card company templates, try to think about your prospect, not yourself. Pick colors that are friendly to the eye, and remember, you want all lettering to be black. You want it to be seen on any background. I have seen cards where people have changed the color of the print and it was too light and almost unreadable against the background. You have a background and your print; your print should always stand out. As far as choosing your colors, you need to Goggle the color wheel, and learn what colors cause what FEELINGS in people. This is so important; I can not emphasize this enough to you. There are hundreds of colors and color combinations, it will take you a little time to learn this, but it is vital to your successful business card.
Always, always, always preview your card before you make a purchase, enhance the size and look at it, is everything in the right place? Should you change the font on your name a little bit, just so it stands out a tad more? Is the size of your website good; is it the largest on the card? Does the color reflect a FEELING of trust and easiness? Think like a prospect, if someone handed you this card, what would you FEEL about it?
Network Marketing is all about connecting and getting to know your prospect, your business card is an extension of that connection to your prospect, think outside the box and make it unique to you and your business. You should also teach this technique to all of your team. Help them choose a card, help them with color, help them and you will all win.
