Vinyl flooring material comprises polyvinyl chloride, plasticizers and pigments that give color. They are usually quite flexible and fine textured. They are non-porous and quite inexpensive. They are easily affordable by the average home owner and they transform your home into a new, stylish one. Installing them might seem very complex at first but it is not so. Here is how you should do it.
Let the material warm up as much as possible before installing. This actually helps you in laying it down accurately. To heat it, leave it in a warm room for a couple of days before you actually start installing.
Roll out the material in the room and check how it fits. It is advisable to start rolling it from the wall which is most visible or which you might consider as the dominant wall in the room. Make sure that every inch of the floor is totally covered by it. After checking how it fits all you need to do is start trimming off the excess around the room. While trimming make sure that you keep at least an excess of 2-3 inches. Also remember it is a must to use a sharp blade or knife for this procedure as a blunt one might give erroneous results.
Next is the apparently difficult part of the whole process. Start cutting it around the edges of the room so that it fits perfectly with the floor against the wall. It is obvious that during this process you will face obstacles that you cannot easily remove. It is quite difficult to cut around obstacles like a sink. In such cases an easy solution is readily available. All you need to do is cut out a hard paper flooring before you go through the actual process. This paper should be quite hard so that it can be used to trace over the vinyl. This paper cutting gives you the pattern of the floor. It also avoids errors; if somehow you are not satisfied with the pattern you can again redo it using another paper. But once you do it over vinyl it can’t be redone. You will have to get a new vinyl all together and redo it.
After this trimming and cutting procedure is over you can easily use the vinyl adhesive to complete the installation process. Make sure that it is spread out evenly, so that there are no folds after it is glued. Finishing is a very essential part that adds to the beauty of your home. Once the flooring is done just make sure to trim any extra material that is left at the corners of the room or around any room fixture. Lastly, give the floor enough time to dry up before using it.
If the above steps are followed then one can easily install vinyl flooring without any major hassles.
