Thinning of the hair in women is usually not hereditary. Instead of genetics playing a role, hormonal changes are usually to blame. Starting and stopping birth control pills, thyroid conditions, pregnancy, menopause, and hormone replacement therapy can all cause hormonal changes in a woman's body, and contribute to thinning hair for women. Sometimes, hair loss caused by a change in hormones is temporary, and there are products available that help to prevent it.
There are many claims about what can be added to hair as a thinning hair remedy. There is new, yet controversial, information on what can be avoided to reverse hair loss. The claimed culprit is Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), an ingredient in most personal care products from shampoos to toothpastes.
Proper Scalp Care: A good way to encourage hair growth is not to use blow driers and chemical shampoos on a daily basis. Using harsh ingredients contained in many hair coloring and straightening products are extremely harmful to your scalp and hair follicles. If you wash tour hair on a daily basis using hot water it can also damage hair. It will get fragile and natural oils in it dry out.
A healthy balanced diet and regular exercise are important in reducing hair loss. It is very important that your body is getting all the vitamins and minerals it needs. On the flip side, too much of certain vitamins (A and E) have been show to actually cause hair thinning. Exercise is also important in improving the blood flow to your scalp and so to your follicles. There are many other benefits to a healthy diet and exercise of course.
Reduce stress as this a big cause of hair loss in men and women. Stress induced hair loss is reversible just by cutting out stress and is an important part of the equation for any thinning hair remedies. Imagine how you would feel, spending thousands of dollars on treatment, only to find your hair loss was stress induced and you could have stopped it dead in its tracks.
Prevent DHT
DHT is the most harmful hormone that is responsible for the majority of your hair loss. It attaches to receptor sites in your hair follicles and eventually stops their growth. One of the best ways to stop DHT from occurring is through an herb called Saw Palmetto. It inhibits DHT from its root by hindering a certain enzyme called type II 5-alpha reductase from creating it. So if you take Saw Palmetto, it will help to prevent any additional hair loss.
One of the best ways to conceal your thinning hair is to find a cut that adds a lot of texture and movement to your style while at the same time makes your hair appear thicker.
Since long hair tends to draw the eye to the reality of thinning hair, shorter hairstyles are often your better bet. Choose styles with a lot of layers and textures ends that will create movement and interest to your hair. Adding texture through soft curl can also be a great way to make your hair look its best.
