Do you often experience pain in the area of your upper teeth, cheeks, forehead, eyebrows, behind the eyes or at the top of your head? You must take this seriously. You may have a problem with your sinuses that could be caused by a sinus infection.
According to some medical experts, sinusitis is an inflammation or infection of the mucous membranes that are the lining in the sinuses and nose. Sinuses are the cavities or hollow spaces around the nose, eyes and cheeks. Several studies have shown that when the mucous membrane gets inflamed, it gets enlarged and blocks the passage of liquid from the sinus cavity into the throat and nose, which can cause pain and pressure in the sinuses.
You then have problems with the draining of the sinuses, which can cause great pain. When you have sinuses that arent’ able to drain as normal, you establish the perfect breeding ground for fungus and bacteria. This can cause the problem to worsen into a serious sinus infection.
What are some of the symptoms of sinusitis and what can we do to avoid it?
Most times, the symptoms of sinusitis include sinus pressure, sinus discharge, sinus congestion, sinus pressure induced headache and facial pain. Many people often times confuse a sinus infection with a cold. This keeps them from seeking the proper medical attention. Bacterial sinusitis is not just a cold. It needs to be taken care of.
There are several courses of treatment currently available for sinusitis. Prescription medication like Decongestants, Antihistamines, Antibiotics and Leukotrinenes and Mucolytics are the most often used ways to cure the infection. In case a severe sinus infection, a complex treatment may be needed, such as Steam Inhalation, Reflux Medications, Nasal Saline Irrigation, Steroids and Over-the-Counter medicine.
Once you determine what type of treatment you want to use to do away with your problem, you should undertake your treatment with confidence, as a thorough understanding of the anticipated outcome and a positive mental attitude will be helpful. Remember to set realistic goals for your recovery and be willing to do the required tasks to hasten your recovery.
Along with these options, be sure to try your best to lead a healthy lifestyle. This can help to keep your immune system in good order, which is always of benefit to you.
