Hereditary Hair Loss Effects Both Men and Women It is more common for men to suffer from hereditary hair loss than women. This is because the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is created as a by-product of testosterone, is the cause of hereditary hair loss and more abundant in the male system. This hormone breaks down genetically sensitive hair follicles and creates baldness. However, testosterone is also found in the female body, albeit at lower levels, so women can also experience this hereditary problem and hair thinning as they age.
Male pattern baldness, a condition characterised by hair loss that recedes from the hairline but leaves healthy hair on the back and sides of the head, is the typical problem pattern that approximately 50% of men will experience by the time they are 50. In female pattern baldness thinning of the hair or balding patches on the head are the more common signs of hereditary hair loss. Approximately 40% of all women will experience this type of problem by the time they reach the age of 50.
Whether hereditary hair loss is affecting a man or a woman, the results can be bothersome. For both, it can cause feelings of a loss of sex appeal and youth, and they may not feel as attractive as before. For anyone feeling this way due to hereditary baldness, there are many options, including medications, hair transplants, wigs and extensions that can help individuals deal with it and prevent it from getting worse.
Causes of Women's Hair Loss
It's not your fault. The perms don't cause it, hairdryers don't cause it. Brushing, teasing, and curling don't cause your hair to fall out. Not even coloring, days in the sun, or any of the other things you do to enhance the beauty of your hair.
The causes into three categories:
-
Hereditary Hairloss
-
Hormone surges or imbalances;
-
Serious health issues
Hormone swings or imbalances Childbirth is a time when a lot of women start losing hair. This is normal and temporary. As soon as your hormones return to pre-pregnancy levels, your hair will start to re-grow
Thyroid imbalances: Consult a doctor for this matter. Products on market will not help this type of hair loss is a symptom of a more serious problem. However, it can be treated, and then your hair will re-grow.
Menopause is another time when women's hormones change. Almost 37% of women experience hair thinning after menopause. This is usually temporary, but your doctor can tell you more about it.
Serious Health Issues Certain medical conditions, some prescription drugs, or severe illness (such as cancer) may contribute to hair loss. Again, this is usually temporary, but your health care provider will be able to advise you.
