On one side it is the son of legendary father Amitabh Bachchan and on the other side it is former Miss India as well as Miss World…Yes! We are talking about the most elegant man Abhishek Bachchan and most beautiful women Aishwarya Rai. The two famous Bollywood couples are getting married soon this year. Abhishek Bachchan, 31, and Rai, 33, has worked together in several movies.
Till now the couple has exchanged their engagement rings in a small ceremony before a small group of relatives and friends. And the date of wedding has yet to finalize.
However, there has been speculation for several months about the love lives of the two actors, and news of their engagement was the top story in several Indian newspapers. The Times of India newspaper reported the wedding would take place in February or March.
At face value, the reporting of the engagement seems to flow innocent enthusiasm for this union between two of the industry's most glamorous stars. But at a second glance, the media's tone betrays a deep-rooted social conservatism began, and reveals much about disparities in attitudes toward men and women.
Rai's age has been the focus of some discussion — the implication being that at 33 she is practically a spinster and has had extraordinary good luck in managing to persuade Bachchan, two years her junior, to pluck her from the shelf.
The fact that Rai has previously been attached to other men has also not gone unnoticed, and the details of earlier relationships with two other Bollywood actors, Salman Khan and Vivek Oberoi, have been picked over at length.
Most peculiar has been the amount of attention paid to Rai's inauspicious horoscope, which sets her out, according to newspaper astrologers, as a potential curse to her future husband.
In recent months, Rai has joined the Bachchan family on several visits to temples to perform what the media described as "cleansing ceremonies." Even, one solution to this unlucky mismatch of star signs, astrologers advised the couple, would be for Rai to first marry a banana tree in a symbolic ceremony to ward off evil.
What else…..the pandit said is still under cover. Hence, keep your eyes open and see what happened next in the life of the two sizzling Bollywood couples…
