To stay healthy is the goal of many, and rightfully so, because it is the only way that you can achieve the things that you want to do in your life. Only a healthy body can accomplish great things in this world and to do that, we need to feed our bodies with good nutrition to help it stay healthy and have a better chance of staying away from illness. Most of the time people turn to nutrition facts to help guide them in deciding what is good to eat. While common sense and a general knowledge will tell you which foods are healthy, still people need to be reminded every once in a while that they have to be extra careful with what they eat. What you put in your mouth will pave the way for a healthier life.
Here are five interesting and helpful things that you should know to keep healthy.
- Water is essential for life, so drink lots of it.
Eight glasses of water a day is what the doctor always recommends. It should only be a guide, not always the rule. People are unique and we all have our own water requirements. Athletes drink more water than the normal person because they perspire a lot and always doing rigorous activities. On the other hand, people who are working in an air conditioned office may drink less because they are in a very comfortable environment. But still, drink plenty of liquids each day and only you can tell how much is enough for you.
- Eat plenty of fruits.
If you are craving for a snack, eat a portion of fruit instead of salty potato chips. Fruits are many times healthier because of all the vitamins they contain, particularly vitamin C. This vitamin alone will help your immune system to fight against illness, even from the common cold.
- Eat lots of vegetables.
As a rule of thumb, the greener or darker the vegetable, the more nutritious it is. It is one of those nutritional facts that are properly backed by scientific research. What it means is that the darker the leaves, the more antioxidants it contains.
- Take in a good amount of fiber.
Fiber is nature's sweeper of getting rid of all the toxins that you put in your body. It also removes some fats as well as some other impurities that you get from processed and other unhealthy foods that you eat. It also increases digestion, which results in a better bowel movement.
- Do not always believe what you read on the label.
There is almost nothing that you can find in the grocery aisle that is completely lacking of fats. So do not easily believe it when a package of chips says that it has zero percent fat. There are other forms of fats that may not be declared in the food label. It goes the same with salt or sodium which is a common ingredient in most processed foods.
