Online Learning, also referred to as distance learning, is the process in which learning is delivered via a computer and the Internet. Unlike
the classroom based learning experience where students and teachers must be physically present in a room for learning to take place, online learning enables learners and instructors in different places to interact using Internet technologies.
In online studies, learning is conducted through email, chat rooms, discussion groups and electronic forums. Distance education varies from one college to the next. Some colleges and universities offer fully-online degree programs while others offer a combination of online and on-campus program.
Fully-online programs means that all programs are offered online with no campus attendance requirement. On the other hand, a combination of online and on-campus attendance means that there are some instances when you will be required to physically attend a a class on-campus - as a
requirement to earn a certificate or degree. You should seek clarification on this before you settle on a particular college or university.
The beauty of online learning lies in the fact you can earn your associate, bachelor's, master's or doctorate degree from the comfort of your home computer without giving up your full time job or family. Online degree programs offers you the flexibility to working and taking care of your family, while earning your degree.
Although distance education offers the same quality education that is found in the on-campus degree programs, it is important to seek out an
online school, college or university that is accredited by a reputable organization. Try find a college that has been accredited by an accreditation agency that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
It will take you about 3 years to earn your bachelor's degree online. This is because you have the flexibility to complete your assignments and projects much faster than you would in a physical lecture-room based program.
It is important to note that financial aid is available to those taking online classes. All you need to do is to check with financial aid office to find the types of financial aid available to suit your financial need.
