All of us want freedom. We do not want to be controlled or manipulated by anyone or anything. Sadly, some people do not enjoy this freedom because of mismanagement of their own debts. Surely, you do not want to see yourself in that situation. How can we avoid putting ourselves into the deep hole of financial debt?
Credit Cards and Debt
Credit cards are found to be a common reason why people fall into serious financial problems. According to surveys conducted by various groups, most Americans own multiple credit cards. Some even try to own as many as five or more credit cards.
But does having multiple credit cards give you a good credit reputation? This can be possible if you can submit all your payment on time and if you can avoid exceeding your limit. But trying to manage too many accounts can be very difficult especially if you use all your cards at the same time.
Having one or two credit card should be enough. The important thing is you have a credit card to use in case of emergency. Yes, credit cards are advantageous but you can only enjoy the benefits if you can manage it correctly.
Below are more suggestions on how to manage your credit card the correct way:
Make a list before your actual purchase. First, you need to distinguish between your"NEEDS" and "Wants". You may write them on a piece of paper before going to the grocery, to the mall or to the market. By doing this, you can easily determine which things are important and which ones are not.
Cultivate self-discipline. Spending is easy but repayment can be difficult. It is hard to pay bills especially if your source of income isn’t enough to cover for all your expenses. Therefore, learn how to control yourself and avoid temptations. You should be the master of your credit card, not the slave.
Every cent is worthy and valuable. Bear in mind that even small amounts of purchases can become a burden when added with high interest rates. Little things can become big when left unchecked.
As much as possible try to pay more than your minimum required due payment. Doing so will not only prevent debt build-up it will also give you positive record as a credit card holder. Having a good credit score is essential. This will help you with your future loans in case you may need to apply for a car loan or home mortgage or a new credit card with more benefits. Most lending companies are lenient to people with good credit history.
Do not forget your due date. Learn how to submit your payments on time. In this way, you can avoid late fees and charges. If you are not sure whether you can pay off a certain purchase on time, the best thing to do is put off the purchase for another time. If you have doubts about your capacity to make payments, it’s best to be on the safe side.
