When men lose hair, it is usually caused by hereditary factors. For women, however, doctors say that genetics rarely cause female hair loss. When women lose hair, it is usually a sign that there is something else wrong in the body. Sometimes, the condition can be helped as in the case of nutrient deficiency. At other times, it may not be so simple.
Poor nutrition
As the obesity problem continues to increase in the West, so do the problems associated with it. Conditions like Type II diabetes, heart disease and hair loss are all rising due to the typical junk food diet enjoyed by Western societies.
Menopause - Changes in hormone levels in the body can result in losing your hair during menopause.
Some type of skin disease affecting the scalp - Loss of hair resulting from this is usually temporary and subsides when the infection is corrected.
Lack of appropriate nutrition can be another main cause of women losing hair. Recently, hair loss has shown a noted increase at the same time fad diets were on the rise. Because of this, it is not difficult to believe that a lack of nutrition can have something to do with women losing hair.
Some types of medications such as blood thinners, vitamin A, anti-depressants, birth control pills, and medications used to treat cancer or gout can cause female hair loss. One way to determine if medication is the cause of your condition is to see if the condition improves when you stop taking the medication.
Stress is not only caused by psychological factors. It may be caused by an unnatural physical condition as well such as having just undergone surgery and experiencing the changes it wrought on your body. Stress can also be a symptom of crash dieting, anemia, and various kinds of illnesses.
Different styling may cause permanent damage to the hair shaft. Tying a ponytail too tightly or having a tightened braid may exert unnecessary pressure on the hair and cause it to fall off. Hence it is important not to tie your hair too tightly. You may also find the front area of your hairline receding when you tie the hair too tightly.
For some women though, hair loss is something that is going to genetically happen anyway and the genes that cause it can be maternal or paternal and is probably more common than you think, with approximately 1 in 4 women suffering from it but is there anything that can be done to combat it?
The most common cause of hair-loss in teenage women is stress. Nevertheless, stress is not the only cause. Hair loss in young women can also be a warning sign of the following: Infection, poor hygiene habits, excessive dye in hair, medication intake, lupus, and or diabetes.
Another common form of female hair loss is known as Telogen Effluvium, or TE. TE is simply described as a direct result of a stressful event that can cause your body to shed its own hair. This condition usually occurs following a stressful event that has taken place including but not limited to, pregnancy and child birth, serious sickness, as well as surgery.
For supplements that can help with loss of hair, one can try products like Provillus. This has a separate formulation for women. This takes into account the separate needs of women when it comes to dealing with balding or excessive scalp damage. As always, it is best to consult your doctor or a health practitioner before trying out any supplements to help determine its suitability and safety.
