Croatia is rapidly becoming one of the premiere tourist destinations in all of Europe, especially during the summer season. The wonderful Mediterranean climate, warm and welcoming people and a wide array of attractions, activities and things to do make it the perfect place for adventurous travelers, and even families and couples looking for a great place to get away.
However, choosing your flights to Croatia requires some planning. You'll find a wide variety of airlines flying into the region, from both the US and Europe; however, how do you choose an airline? Which airlines offer cheapest fares? What cities in Croatia do the airlines serve? Here are a few useful tips to help you get the most out of your Croatia holiday and find the best air travel options for you.
Tip – Book your flight early. Traveling to Croatia requires some planning, usually best done well ahead of time. You'll need to know where you want to go, and book accordingly. Discounted airfare is available; however, you'll find that as the flight fills up, the ticket prices skyrocket. Booking early is the best way to get the lowest price possible.
Flying into a small airport in Croatia can be exciting, but you'll find problems as well. The best choice is to fly into one of the 6 major airports in the country. Dubrovnik, Split, Zagreb, Rijeka, Pula and Zadar all offer international airports served by major airlines.
Travelers from the US will most likely have to change planes to another carrier in Europe to reach several destinations.
Zagreb Airport
Aeroflot, Air France, Alitalia, Austrian Airlines, BH Airlines, Croatia Airlines, CSA, Germanwings, LOT, Lufthansa, Malev, TAP, Turkish Airlines and WIZZ Air have flights to Zagreb Airport. Most of these are Western European airlines, with a few Eastern European airlines thrown in.
Rijeka Airport
Rijeka is a smaller airport, serviced by a number of airlines, including Croatia Airlines, HLX and a few others.
Zadar Airport
Zadar is served by Croatia Airlines, Ryanair, Sky Europe, Germanwings, ScandJet, InerSky and a few smaller airlines.
Split Airport
The second largest Split airport boasts a large number of airlines operating within it. You'll find Air Malta, Air One, Croatia Airlines, Easy Jet, Finnair, Germanwings, Luxair, Mistral Air, Sterling Airlines, Tomas Cook Airlines, Ural Airlines and many others for your convenience.
Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik is one of the most frequent destinations and boasts a large number of flights to Croatia. You'll find KLM, Malev Airlines, Delta, Air France, Austrian Airlines, Croatia Airlines, Czech Airlines, Virgin Airlines, and a few smaller ones, as well.
