Brief History

Located on the old Monticello College, basically a "finishing" school for women established in 1838, the community college started if first co-education class in 1970 while the Monticello had its last class in 1971 and closed down that year.

Campus Features

215 acres of picturesque campus of the erstwhile Monticello College has been inherited by the L & C as its main campus. Gilman Hall of 1836 is the oldest building in the campus. Subsequently Evergreens (1850), Benjamin Godfrey Memorial Chapel (1854), Reid Hall, Caldwell Hall (1890), Baldwin Hall, Fobes Hall (1916), Wade Hall (1926), Albert Hall (1992), Haskel Hall (renovated 2001), Trimpe Building or Advanced Technology Center, Hatheway Cultural Center, River Bend Arena, Andy Simpson Tennis Complex, McPike Math and Science Complex, Olin Science Building, the Commons, and the Daisy and Roger P. Templin Nursing Buildings were added to make the campus comprehensive and highly attractive. Over the past decade the student strength have gone up by nearly 60% and annually the college serves over 25,000 students.

A full range of degree and certificate programs are offered by the college to help one achieve the academic and career goals.
