Campus Features

Original campus was located on the estate of Admiral Rixey who was the physician to President Roosevelt and William McKinley. Former Rixey Mansion was renamed as the main house of the university. Center for Ethical Concerns was established in 1993. Institute for honors studies for freshman and transfers were initiated in 2002. Latest improvement is the construction of 26 th Street Project turning the Old Dominion road into a 52,000 square foot academic building with residence hall and four level parking garage sub soil. Ratio of faculty to students is 1:13 in the university.

Brief History

Founded in 1950 by Religious of the Sacred Heat of Mary the name of the institute was Marymount College. At that time it was a 2-Year women's school and a member school of Marymount colleges that were run by the sisterhood in the location of New York, California as well as many other states. In the year 1973 Marymount became a four years college and added master's degrees in 1979. First doctoral program was added in 2004. Meanwhile the college had become fully co-educational and earned the university status in 1986.

Programs Offered

Associate, doctoral, masters, and bachelor's degrees are offered by the college besides undergraduate as well as graduate certifications. Other programs are pre-professional training in teaching, medicine, law, and physical therapies. Unique feature of the institute is that it is only among the Washington universities offering Fashion Designs and the Merchandising programs.
