Title: The Every Other Day Diet

Authors: Jon Benson and Janis Hauser

If you have tried and failed with countless diets and weight loss programs in the past then ‘The Every Other Day Diet’ may be just what you’re looking for.

That’s where ‘The Every Other Day Diet’ comes in!

The principle concept is clear to see in the title of course but a little further explanation is required. A typical week would involve eating slightly more than your body requires for two days, followed by two days of eating less than your body needs. Then one more day of over eating, and finish the week with two days of eating less. Overall this gives in a calorific deficit over the week and results in a loss of weight.

The problem with most diets is that if you constantly ‘under eat’, starving your body of what it craves, your metabolism slows down and you don’t lose any weight! This reaction is purely natural and is our body’s way of protecting against starvation. Basically, if your body feels that it is not getting enough food, it will store fat to keep you alive for longer. Then to top it off, when you finally give up and go back to your normal eating habits, there is a time lapse before your body moves out of ‘starvation mode’ and you pile more weight on!

‘The Every Other Day Diet’ works because it fools your body into thinking it is receiving the normal amount of calories when actually it is receiving less. It also works because on the ‘over eating’ days known as ‘feed days’ you can eat whatever you want (within reason) making it possible for us mere mortals to actually stick to the program in the long term.

If you want to eat pizza, deserts or whatever your personal vice may be, you can! Although you do have to limit the portion size somewhat. But surely this is much better than the thought of never being able to eat your favourite foods ever again!

A small amount of exercise is included in the program but it is mainly ‘diet’ orientated. A little regular brisk walking will suffice.

‘The Every Other Day Diet’ also includes regular updates and newsletters, which provides recipes and motivational material to help keep you motivated (if being able to eat your favourite foods and still lose weight isn’t motivation enough!)

Overall, this is a great program. It produces results and it is easier to stick to then any other diet out there. If you’re worried that your will power might not stand up to the task then ‘The Every Other Day Diet’ would be my recommendation.

What I love about this program is that it doesn’t just focus on the scientific element of dieting i.e. the reasons why we put on or lose weight as other programs do, but it focuses on the human element. The fact is we all have our own weaknesses. Regardless of how effective a diet may be in theory, if most people are unable to stick to the program in the long term then the whole concept is flawed. This is where most diets fail. Constantly starving yourself of what you really want to eat is mentally exhausting, as I’m sure you already know. If you are unable to stick with the program, regardless of how effective the theory may be, it is useless.
