A lot of people are now using the social giant Facebook to market their business, it used to my MySpace that was used but that is quickly becoming a thing of the past. The fact that Facebook has over 200 million users now from across the globe makes it a very appealing platform to market on. Unfortunately though most of the people using Facebook for business purposes are downright spammers. I'm sure you have experienced for yourself the droves of constant emails pitching biz ops and various other affiliate products, sometimes it's difficult to get away from it (depending on who is on your friend list), sometimes I don't even bother reading my emails in Facebook and just delete them.

By learning what works and what not to do, I see no reason why you cannot have great success with Facebook as a promotion tool. Use Facebook to connect with people, develop good solid relationships, that's what it's all about. If we want to tell folks about our business we can do that at a later date in a non threatening way.

Here are six steps that you can use to do business on Facebook,

1. You want your profile to be crammed full of information about you and your personal activities, let people know what you are into, what your hobbies and interests are, pictures work great, make sure you always look happy :). People want to learn about YOU not just your business.

2. Start searching for groups relevant to your market and start adding friends. Vary things as much as you can, try not to be narrow minded and just go for the online marketing groups.

3. Look for relevant groups that you can join. FB groups all have a wall, you might want to consider putting some useful info on the wall for others to see and share. Often I will let groups know about new content that I have written or post videos, people get useful information from it and it encourages them to subscribe to my list and eventually some then go on to join my business.

4. You can make your own groups. Once you have done this send out invitations for others to join your group or you can even use FB advertising services to attract new members. It is very similar to building a list.

5. A great strategy is to post videos to your wall and also to your friends walls (please make sure it is valuable useful content!). This is a fantastic way for more people to see your stuff, all your friends friends will see your content so it could quickly go viral. Again remember not to abuse this by spamming with your business opportunity, the end result of that will be that your 'friend' will delete you most likely.

6. Make an individual greeting video welcoming new people as your friend. This is a VERY powerful Facebook marketing strategy and not many people are doing it.

When you know how to do it right FaceBook is a very effective marketing tool.
