Barcelona, the city more famous for the football club named after it, than anything, also happens to be one of the most dynamic cities in Spain. There are lots of things to do and places to visit in and around this city. Below a look at 5 best day trips you must try from Barcelona.

Montserrat Mountains: Situated just an hour away (by train) from Barcelona, Montserrat Mountain is one of the hottest tourist spots around Barcelona. It is famous for its monastery that houses the statue of ‘Virgin Mary’ and is more of a pilgrimage town than anything but people also come here for scenic beauty of the mountains. There are a couple of hotels and restaurants here and shopping here includes a lot of religious artifacts. Do not forget to take a tour of the mountains in Sant Joan funicular.

Sitges: The costal town of Sitges also attracts many tourists and can be reached by train in roughly one one hour. The town is famous for its beaches and resorts and is a haven for party lovers. Its carnivals are famous all over the country and the tourists often make a point to visit Sitges for carnival time.

Figueres: The town is the birthplace of Salvador Dali and houses the world famous Museum-Theatre dedicated to Dali. An hour away from this place also situated is the Pubol Castle, the ultimate expression of Dali’s love for Gala. It’s a reminiscent of the Gothic-Renaissance art and culture. The town is only meant for the art lovers, though you may also get to savor the fine Catalonian delicacies in this region.

Costa Brava: Costa Brava is the best kayaking destination, not only near to Barcelona but also in the whole of Northern Europe. It is situated in the north of the city and is a hot tourist spot. The Mediterranean beaches are lovely and you get to indulge in lots of activities such as fishing, swimming and kayaking. The restaurants here serve the best seafood in the region.

Vic and Pyrenees: A stroll or a hike among the Pyrenees is a must if you are in Barcelona. The mountains lie to the north of the city and are offer breathtaking panoramic view. The rack railway carriage here takes you on an extensive tour of the mountains and you even get to go some 2000 feet above the sea level in the mountains. The view from this height is simply awe-inspiring. On the way to Pyrenees, you can also stroll around the historical town of Vic and take a glimpse of the era gone by.
