Expat is a Latin word. It is an abbreviation of expatriate. A person, who involves with his temporary or permanently residing in a country and culture other than his motherland, known as expatriate. As an example, in 19th century, two famous American personalities Munich and Paris were drawn to Europe, to study the art of painting, after that, they were attracted to European culture and they are recognized as expatriate. Shortly, we may say, who is voluntarily absent from home or country, they are expatriate.
Just think about expats in India. An unlimited entertainment waiting for expatriate in India, like other countries. Now India becomes a best and brightest country, due to western culture. Now-a-days numbers of European and American have increased in India. Western culture and food all give an extra outlook in India. Even it is effective for our professional life also. West India think about Information Technology and for this, India plays an important role into I.T. field. Many traditional events, such as outdoor public religious festivals taking place. That is a sign of talent. This also comes from western culture.
Even, we have found western effects in our daily food also. Mughlai and Punjabi dish are much popular in India. Some delicious dishes, such as Pulao, Kebab, Kofta, Tandoori Chicken, generally we take as our party food. Do you know, ‘Thali Plate’? This is a Dubai food, very testy. It is a mixture of Indian food and culture. In this way, different type of authentic foods from each region, help the expat Indian.
Now, Indian job field has been totally changed due to western culture. Indian job market is full of variety of jobs. Large numbers of foreigners are dependent on Indian job market. B.P.O., Pharma, Telecom, Hospitality all type of I.T. related job, now fulfill our dream. We have found many foreigners resumes from different job sites, such as Times jobs, Monster India etc. West India discovers many attractive professional opportunities in the countries growing information technology sector.
Indian dress is another thing, where we have found some important shine of western culture. Short skirts and tight tops are fashion of present days. Skirt below the knee, sharee, ordinary trousers are obsolete now.
There is some effect we also found in communication. Now English and other foreign languages are very much popular for communication. If you do not speak foreign language properly, then you can depend on body language, gestures, postures, and facial expressions. Now we understand nonverbal communication has also cultural meaning.
From above article, we realize a positive effect of expatriates over India. But it has a bad effect also. Nevertheless most expatriates say they are enjoying life in India. But the trend of expats occupying key position and leadership roles, that is hitting the Indian corporate these days. It may be, expat managers have more abilities than Indian manager, but Indian leadership is more familiar about Indian pattern, abilities of Indians, and their commitment also. In future, this trend can occupy a great position into other cases also and it is harmful for us.
