Thanks to technology producers can create beats or create electronic bands. However, in the past, the music business was ran by the major record

labels. The record labels had the last word in everything in a performer's entertainment career from beginning to end. The major record label would control the artist image, airplay, royalty rate, and achievements while under the record label. After the musician's career was done, the performer often did not have anything to show for their sweat and creativity.

Back in the day, the record company would pay for the artist’s project ahead of time in the form of an advance. The money usually amounted to a loan which had to be repaid. The record company would pay for the manufacturing and marketing of the musician's project and then recover the funds loaned after the project started selling. Perhaps it seems objective on the face of it, the record label often would charge the artist for a lot higher than what the record company provided. The

record company would not only bill the musician for the items mentioned previously, but also would reduce artist royalties for damaged goods,

group discounts and a wealth of many other expenses. Also the record label would remove these charges from the artist's total income.

While the record label would allow an artist to audit the record company’s books, a lot producers didn’t authorize any audits. Producer's were usually scared of angering the record companies by requesting the record companies to account for the costs and deductions in writing. This reasonable fear kept artists in their place – under the record company's control. Technology has flipped the script. Today with computer technology, the power has shifted into the control of the producer. There’s a new order in the music business has record labels worrying in

the boardroom. Today with Computer Technology, anyone can start a record company and have a music studio on their computer. Now it is possible for artists to record their own beats. There are a number of complimentary or low cost computer software applications that lets a musician to record and sell their own material without the need or hindrance of any other record label.

An artist can readily promote and advertise their t-shirts and music online at lots of internet sites. Also there are a lot of new internet hosting services that allows a musician to get a site committed to advertising and marketing their music to the increasing internet community. There are thousands of producers producing beats and making a living pitching their songs online. Today the control is in the grasp of the musicians.
