The first step in outsourcing is taking the screening process seriously and finding the most qualified applicant for the job that is outsourced. This will make the outsourcing attempt a success if the hired individual is qualified to complete the tasks.

When searching for the right person, place a detailed advertisement spelling out the exact project requirements and your preferences to ensure that the applicants are aware of all of the requirements. Immediately disregard candidates who are not qualified for the position. Then review the applications of qualified candidates carefully and select a small group of the most promising candidates. Then interview each of these applicants and discover more about their work ethics and abilities. After interviewing these candidates it is time to make a decision regarding hiring one of the final candidates. If none of the applicants seem just right it might be necessary to continue looking and screening new candidates.

When outsourcing a tasks or project, it is important to clearly define the requirements of the project. Give as much information as you can about what you need delivered and the way in which you need the task done. This is crucial as it is important for the contractor to fully understand the tasks which are being outsourced to ensure he is fulfilling all of the requirements and doing the task in a satisfactory manner.

Failure to set a definite project requirements and goals can lead to problems when outsourcing a project. The contractor may feel as though he has completed the task as it was outlined but the employer may disagree. When this happens there can be harmful delays until the issues are resolved.

Establishing a deadline for the task is also an essential factor of outsourcing that needs attention in order to avoid delays and misunderstandings. If possible, the cut-off date should be established before the candidate is chosen as this allows the employer to verify that the candidate is available for the duration of the project.

One more important thing to do to ensure that work proceed as planned is to set milestones. This will give the employer the ability to assess the progress during the different stages of the tasks.
