Yes, it can.
Before we talk about treatment, we need to understand what Blastocystis Hominis is all about.
This is basically a parasite that lives in the intestine of the human being and various animals, including insects such as the cockroach. The parasite that infected human beings was initially called Blastocystis Hominis. Subsequent studies however, changed this concept. It was later concluded that there are no human-specific strains; rather these strains develop according to their geographical location and environmental circle.
The disease caused by the parasite is called Blastocystis. There are a few very typical symptoms associated with this disease since the parasite normally settles in the colon – lower abdominal cramps, diarrhea, constipation, weight-loss, and fatigue. The strength of the disease greatly depends upon the condition of your own body.
If the parasite finds that your immune system is weak, it attacks ferociously and generates violent symptoms. There are also cases where the parasite is settled with a host, but does not show any outward symptoms.
This is a disease that breeds in poor hygienic conditions, since it requires to be ingested before it anchors itself in the colon of its host. Therefore, the first thing you need to do when you are exposed to suspicious environments is to avoid anything raw or not sterilized. It is most important to pay attention to the possibility of ingesting contaminated water, raw (unwashed) foods, etc.
There are two sides that contribute to the correct and successful treatment of this disease – (1) strengthening your inner immune system because this parasite is partial to people who have a weak immune system, and (2) killing and eliminating the parasite from the body.
Some herbs (these are some of the herbs used by herbalists) that boost the immune system are – Siberian Gingseng, Amala, Shatavari, Echinacea, Rhodiolla, Astragallus among others. For killing the parasite, herbs such as Oregano Leaf, Garlic, Coptis Chinensis, Pomegranate, Quing Hao, Cloves and Black Walnut are some of the more successful approaches.
Since this is an anaerobic organism, Blastocystis Hominis cannot exist in an oxygen-rich environment. This aspect promotes the treatment of this disease with stabilized oxygen – though the treatment needs careful supervision and monitoring of an experienced hand.
Natural pro-biotics (friendly bacteria that live in the colon and large intestine) and pre-biotics (the nutrition required by the pro-biotics to live) are known to work exceedingly well in preventing the stabilization of this parasite inside the human colon.
Prevention procedures also include regular colon cleansing and colonic therapy, which prevent the fixation of such "bad bugs" in the colon. Particular herbs such as psyllium husks in combination with bentonite clay are exceptionally beneficial during the cleansing process.
Of course, the most important method for preventing any disease, including this particular one, is paying attention to hygienic factors pertaining to food and water whenever you travel or you are not in control of your personal food and drink preparation process.
Paul A.J. has an interest in holistic, natural, and effective approaches to health and general wellbeing, and he runs several websites which talk about these important areas. One of these sites is http://www.blastocystis-relief.com, which gives an insight into the Blastocystis Hominis parasite through a resource guide he has produced. This resource guide is available from the website.
