Studies reveal that despite the growing influence of the Internet, particularly among young adults, television has remained as the dominant medium in most households. Since the time when this box first brought moving pictures to our households in the 1920s, thus, earning the moniker, "America's favorite babysitter', television is still dominating American households today.
Americans, according to studies, spend over four and half hours a day in front of the television, making this pastime as the most common leisure activity – not to mention most inexpensive. If adults stay glued for about four hours a day, consider the amount of time unsupervised kids spend on this medium surfing from one cartoon channel to another. Now, are you still wondering why television remains to be the most preferred medium of advertising today?
Advertising on television however is not cheap if you compare it to say, print brochures or posters. They in fact, will cost you an arm and a leg. However, one cannot discount its power because it allows you to show and tell, in a very graphic way, your product or services. Television are so powerful that there are studies that suggest that television has greatly influenced, altered if you like, the minds of young children. Now, do you still have doubts to the power of the television for advertising purposes?
As this is a very expensive medium, you have to get things right the first time. There is no trial and error for television advertising, you either create an effective one or you do not. The first thing you have to consider in creating an effective television ad is a good script that highlights your key message. The script should be able to capture your story and your message in less than 30 seconds. It is for this reason why you have to engage the help of professional advertising firms to help your create an effective ad campaign.
Although we have been harping about the power of the television, it also has its own disadvantages. First, the cost is prohibitive. Not all businesses have the money to launch a credible campaign using the television. Creating one 30-second ad involves hiring professional script writers, film editors, videographers, advertising agencies and of course, your actors. I mentioned actors last because their costs vary particularly if you get the services of someone very famous.
The power of the television cannot be overemphasized but if you do not have the money to launch an effective ad campaign, then settle for your old and trusted brochure printing.
