Every day, another family picks up a Nintendo Wii from the store and starts off on a whole new adventure with the latest and greatest console by the company. It is a unique addition to the line of consoles Nintendo has put out, with many new ideas and technologies being implemented that many people might not understand at first.
Motion Control
For starters, the Wii remote and the Nunchuck are motion sensitive. It understands when a user tilts it, the angle at which they turn it, how fast they turn it, so on and so forth. This allows players to feel more into the game. For example, in Wii Sports, players can actually press a button, roll their hand back and swing their arm forward as if they were really bowling.
This is detected by the sensor bar. This is a much more advanced and much more accurate upgrade in technology from their first attempt – the sensor bar for the Nintendo Power Glove. This 20 cm piece of plastic can be placed either above or below the television set, allowing all Wii remotes in the room to interact with it, as well as being allowing motion controls to kick in.
Virtual Console
There is a store on the Wii as well, on which players may add points at about £7 for every 1000 points. These points can be spent buying virtual copies of the old school games from older Nintendo consoles. This includes the NES, SNES, N64, SEGA MEGA DRIVE, TurboGrafx and more. The game is downloaded to the system memory and sits on the main menu. It is possible to delete them to preserve space and they can be downloaded again at any time from the shop.
Some Virtual Console games are as follows:
-
NES. Baseball, Donkey Kong Jr., Mario Bros., Soccer, Donkey Kong, Ice Hockey, Solomon’s Key, The Legend of Zelda, Tennis, Urban Champion, Wario’s Woods
-
SNES. F-Zero, SimCity, Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country
-
N64. Super Mario 64, Pokemon Snap
-
SEGA MEGA DRIVE. Sonic the Hedgehog, Dr. Robotonik’s Mean Bean Machine, Gunstar Heroes, Golden Axe, Altered Beast, Toe Jam & Earl, Ristar, Ecco the Dolphin, Columns, Space Harrier II
-
TurboGrafx. Bonk’s Adventure, Super Star Soldier, Victory Run, Bomber-man’93, Dungeon Explorer
Games are regularly added on a weekly basis.
Peter Simpson writes guides on computing, gadgets and new technology. This week Peter has been active on the nintendo wii after finding great nintendo wii packages online.
When he’s not active, Peter like to blast aliens on the ps3 and indulge in some online play on his x box 360 console.
