You will frequently hear that how to succeed in network marketing – often referred to as multi level marketing or simply MLM – comes down to the business being a numbers game.

Although it's fact that most of the people you speak with won't enter with you in business so you've got to talk with a lot of them. But, as a word of caution, be careful should you look at MLM as being just a numbers game.

If you consider the ideas which follow you possibly will see this numbers game thought in a new and different way.

People get involved in a network marketing business to reach their goals and realize their dreams.

They are not getting involved because they love to sell stuff. They feel that succeeding in a network marketing business is a means to see their dreams and goals become reality.

Let’s say you’re reviewing your business opportunity with a prospect. She’s showing interest in the network marketing industry but she does have her doubts. She is looking for confidence that if she does begin a network marketing business she’s making a good decision.

You're speaking with a real person here. She's somebody's sister. She's a mom, a wife, an aunt and maybe a grandmother.

If you look at her as being a part of your multi level marketing numbers game, she will pick right up on it. And if you see her as a number you’ll exercise some type of a high pressure pitch to get her into your group.

However, if you make it your business to connect with her on a personal level – to recognize her motivations for wanting to start a business to begin with – you will be seen as a valuable resource by her. She’ll see you as a person who cares and as someone who can assist her in realizing her dreams.

As long as you make it your purpose in MLM to be viewed as a true resource to others, you’re golden.

At the peril of sounding too mamby pamby, speak with people from your core. Let them feel the concern and interest you have for their dreams.

Provided you can connect with others on a personal level and see their goals for wanting to begin a business then you will succeed in MLM.

As you speak with people about your opportunity, it's what they want that's most important, not what you want.

By helping others to achieve what they want then you will achieve what you want in the process. And that is an undeniable, universal truth.

Re-read the two previous sentences one more time. Those two sentences are the most important business concept you will ever discover.

Additionally, being hung up on the numbers game of MLM means you’ll have an open door policy for your business. What is bound to happen is you'll be left thinking that stuffing "numbers" into your business is the key to MLM success.

Additionally, believing that network marketing is a numbers game will lead you to think that such nonsense as the 3 foot rule is actually effective business building.

Have you ever heard of this rule?

What "the 3 foot rule" tells you is that any person within 3 feet of your reach, at any given time, is a prospect for your MLM business.

That's nuts! The last thing I personally would want to do is pitch a stranger on my business. All that the 3 foot rule will do is alienate others.

Finally, let me say this; no doubt that a far fewer number of people you talk to will actually join your business but so what.

Being methodical and connecting with the right people for your organization will put you way ahead of the success curve and will save you a great deal of frustration in the long run.

Most importantly always remember, network marketing is a relationship game, stop looking at it as a numbers game.

There is one single, undeniable step you can take to make sure your business is focused on people and not numbers. This step is critical to your network marketing success.
