Talk About Luck!

Lotteries are games of pure chance .Lottery players around the world use a wide variety of methods to try to increase the odds of winning in their favor. A big lottery win can be a life changing experience and many big winners have become wealthy beyond their wildest dreams. In many cases big lottery winners find themselves broke after a relatively short period of time. Several lottery winners have said that winning the lottery was the worst thing that ever happened to them. On the flip side there have been stories of lottery winners who have been suddenly lifted from abject poverty such as the young man in North Dakota who was so broke that his phone had just been disconnected.

In most western countries divorce usually results in the impoverishment of the male and usually the soon to be ex wife ends up with most of the assets. In Britain a man going through a divorce bought a lottery ticket to cheer himself up. Kevin Halstead, 50, who is a bus driver, won a £2.3million pound lottery jackpot. As it happened Halstead won the jackpot one day after his divorce decree was received. Had he won just a day earlier he could have been forced to share his big win with his ex wife. Halstead went out with some friends to celebrate his divorce and bought a lottery ticket the next day. Halstead was floored when his winning numbers came up in that evening's draw. Had the divorce taken just a few days longer Halstead would most likely have been forced to hand over £2.3million to his ex wife Helen.

The divorce has been described as 'amicable' and the former Mrs. Halstead wished her ex husband and his new lady love the best of luck. Kevin's ex wife stated, "It's fantastic and I'm made up for them. It really couldn't have happened to a nicer couple. I've not heard anything about whether he'll give me any money. That's up to him I suppose. I'm just over the moon for him. It's great news and he deserves every penny." The former Mrs. Halstead had her own little bit of luck. She won £5 on a scratch card lottery ticket.

Mr. Halstead says he plans to continue working at his bus driving job which he has done for the past 17 years. Halstead said, "I don't want to cut myself off from my friends and I really enjoy my job. Maybe I will go part-time." Talk about luck!
