Before succumbing yourself to strenuous or vigorous exercise, it is a good idea to first read about exercise facts and myths. This also goes for fitness facts and myths. This way, you’ll know accurate details on the matter before putting your body under so much stress in order to achieve weight loss or weight control.
Body: There are a lot of myths about fitness and exercise. To truly understand the concerns around the two, it is important to segregate exercise facts from mere myths. Here are the common misconceptions about them:
Myth: In order to achieve weight loss, you need to dwell into vigorous exercise.
Fact: Any type of exercise, vigorous or not, can increase one’s caloric expenditure on a daily basis. If you combine this with a rational eating plan, even your moderate exercises can help you achieve weight control or weight loss. This becomes especially attainable when done consistently.
Myth: You can eat as much as you can and still lose weight just as long as you exercise.
Fact: This is only half true. People who consistently take in more calories than they can expend won’t really lose weight. An individual’s metabolic rate, type of diet, activity level and heredity still play a major role in weight control and weight loss.
Myth: No matter what type of exercise you get into, it can increase your appetite.
Fact: Studies show that one’s appetite becomes more manageable after some forms of exercise. For moderate activities which last even for less than an hour, they can help you reduce your appetite for another hour or so. It is intense exercise of more than an hour that increases one’s appetite.
Myth: Exercise vigorously every day in order to improve your fitness levels.
Fact: Contrary to this, more doesn’t always mean that it’s better. Of course, the body still needs to recover in-between intense exercise sessions. During cases wherein the muscles aren’t given ample time to recover, the body becomes susceptible to overtraining and possible injury.
There are a lot of other exercise facts and myths as well as fitness facts and myths. These usually revolve around issues of weight loss and weight control. Keep in mind that exercise alone cannot help you achieve your desired figure and weight. You need to combine it with a healthy diet, vitamins and lifestyle changes. There are also those who rely on weight reducing drugs. Before you go about and buy these over-the-counter drugs, it is best to see a doctor. Not all these drugs have positive side effects, especially if you’re allergic to it.
No matter how strenuous or vigorous your exercise sessions are, if you’re still drinking and smoking excessively or if you’re still eating so much junk food, weight loss/control will be hard to attain. You need to be committed to this goal in order to succeed. Thus, too much and too less of things are not good for the body.
