How do we know which hemorrhoid treatment to choose when we're suffering from hemorrhoids? Well, it would depend on the type of hemorrhoid that we have. In order to choose the correct treatment for the ailment, we have to learn if it will cure or help with the type hemorrhoids we have.

There are two types of hemorrhoids: external and internal. External hemorrhoids occur outside the anal verge. The hemorrhoid veins would swell and cause irritation and sometimes pain. Under this type of hemorrhoids is thrombosis or thrombosed hemorrhoids. This is when the vein ruptures or if a blood clot develops.

The treatment for this type of hemorrhoids will vary according to how severe or painful it is. If the pain is not that bad and there is not much swelling, warm sitz baths and a good and disciplined health diet may be enough as treatments. If the pain is great, however, and if the swelling is big then it might become imperative to remove the blood clot. When this happens, consult with your doctor with the procedure of how to remove the clot. Do not attempt this procedure yourself. It is a delicate process where the swollen vein is injected with an anesthetic and a cut will be made to remove the blood clot. After the operation, you will be subjected to start on sitz baths at home and dress the hemorrhoid yourself. There will still be some pain after the clot is removed but it will be less than before.

The other type of hemorrhoids, internal, occur inside the rectum. This type is usually painless which is why many people are not aware that they already actually have hemorrhoids. We can only realize that it we have this illness if there is bleeding. Internal hemorrhoids isn't alarming.. yet. Only when it has advanced to more sever forms does it become a very huge concern.

The two severe forms of internal hemorrhoids are prolapsed and strangulated hemorrhoids. We can say that strangulated hemorrhoids is the next phase to prolapsed hemorrhoids. Prolapsed hemorrhoids happen when the internal veins become so distended and pushed out of the anus. Strangulated hemorrhoids is when the prolapsed hemorrhoid is trapped due to a spasm in an anal muscle. When the hemorrhoid is trapped outside the anus, the blood supply is cut off, and the result is strangulated hemorrhoids.

With prolapsed internal hemorrhoids, you might still be able to push in the hemorrhoid sticking out of the anus. But in cases that this is no longer possible, you can go to your doctor and consult with him. The doctor might be able to push the hemorrhoid back for you. But if it is too swollen and unable to be pushed back in, then a surgery is needed to reduce or relieve the swollen hemorrhoids. If this is not done and you leave your hemorrhoids trapped through the anus, it will become infected. The infection can spread and this will lead to yo becoming very sick.

Oftentimes, when we already have the worse types of hemorrhoids, surgery is the recommended treatment. When the case is less severe, we can stick to routine habits of sitz baths, healthy diets, and pain relievers. One thing is sure: always consult a doctor.
